The purpose of this method is to make effective use of the desired effect of two-coat binding.

This has the disadvantage that when cutting one of the two, cracks that occur in the back often extend to the back beyond the other cutting line. These cracks not only significantly reduce the commercial value of the book, but also sometimes result in the book being defective, and have been a factor that has hindered the use of two-book binding, which has the advantageous aspects mentioned above. Therefore, it was impossible to use thick books.

This method prevents cracks in the back of the book that occur from the chain section to the other cutting line when cutting one cutting line from extending to the other cutting line, and is an extremely easy method to achieve the desired effect of two-book binding. This is a second method that allows it to be used effectively.

, (2) A notch (4) of a required depth is formed in the book back (3) in the direction of the edge (5) by cutting means using an electric saw. Note that the parallel cutting lines (2), (2) are shown as dotted lines in the drawing for convenience of explanation, but their positions are determined using a positioning device attached to the cutting machine at the time of final cutting.

When cutting one side of the book, the book on the side fixed with the presser plate (7) will not crack (9) even if the cutting blade (8) descends, but the book on the side fixed with the presser plate (7) will not crack (9). As the cutting blade (8) descends, the book on the side without the book is compressed downward and sideways and becomes distorted. At this time, the parts of the paper surface that are not fixed with the adhesive are cut one by one while being shifted, so that the distortion can be absorbed. On the other hand, the back of the book (
3) cannot absorb this strain and cracks due to the strain stress. In conventional two-blade bookbinding in which the notch (4) is not provided in this area, the cutting blade (8)
As it descends, this crack (9) increases and spreads in the direction of the cutting line. However, in this invention, the notch (4) is formed on the way where the generated crack (9) spreads.
Since it is recessed, the cracks (9) that occur as shown in the bottom of Figure 2 are interrupted and disappear in the space of this notch (4), and the strain stress of the book spine (3) caused by the cutting blade (8) is reduced. is also absorbed in this space. Therefore, no new cracks (9) will occur in the book spine (3) beyond the notch (4).
