The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a modified magnetic material, and more particularly to a method for manufacturing a magnetic material that improves reduction in coercive force. An important requirement for magnetic materials for high-density recording is how high the coercive force is and how well it is maintained. Conventionally, it has been known that fine reduced iron powder can be used to increase the hole magnetic force. However, perhaps because the fine reduced iron powder has a large specific surface area,
It is highly oxidized and changes to a higher oxidation state, iron oxide. As a result, there was a drawback that the coercive force also decreased. Although reduced iron powder is an excellent magnetic material, it has not been used as a magnetic material for practical use due to this drawback. The present inventor previously provided a technology for modifying inorganic substances (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 52-56145), and when this technology was applied to iron powder, it was discovered that high coercive force was maintained for a long period of time. The invention has been completed. That is, the present invention combines easily oxidizable iron powder in a low oxidation state and having a coercive force of 900 to 1800 Oe with one or more selected from monoorganic phosphates, bisorganic phosphates, and salts thereof. This is a method for producing magnetic materials that are brought into contact with substances directly or in a medium. The structural formula of the organic phosphate ester that can be used in the present invention is as follows. i.e.

気シートにと[Formula] (where R 1 and R 2 represent ester residues), where the former represents a monoorganic phosphate ester and the latter represents a bisorganic phosphate ester. In this way, organic phosphate esters are those in which one or two of the three acidic groups of phosphoric acid are esterified, and the remaining acidic groups are either in the form of free acidic groups or neutralized with alkali. It exists in the form of salt. Specific examples of ester groups that can be effectively used as organic phosphate esters include methyl group, ethyl group, propyl group, isopropyl group, butyl group, octyl group, 2-ethylhexyl group, isodecyl group, and decanol. group, butoxyethyl group, chloroethyl group, dichloropropyl group, dibromopropyl group, phenyl group, hydroxymethyl acrylate group, hydroxyethyl acrylate group, etc. As these salts, sodium salts, potassium salts, ammonium salts, calcium salts, magnesium salts, etc. are conveniently used. Among the above-mentioned organic phosphate esters, those having 5 or more carbon atoms are particularly preferred. When organic phosphate esters are obtained industrially, they are usually obtained as a mixture of monoorganic phosphate esters and bis organic phosphate esters, but in the present invention, it is not necessarily necessary to separate these, and they can be obtained in the form of a mixture. It can be used to modify iron powder. Similarly, there is no problem with tris organic phosphate ester being mixed in the organic phosphate ester. In the present invention, iron powder has a coercive force of 900 to 1800 Oe.
(Oersted) means iron powder in a low oxidation state. This iron powder can be obtained by reducing highly oxidized iron powder, such as hematite, by a known reduction method. An example of the production of iron powder is, for example, by adding an alkali to an aqueous solution of iron salt as described below to precipitate iron hydroxide, and then blowing air into the precipitate to form ferric hydroxide. Next, this is heated and dried to obtain goethite (α-FeOOH). Next, by roasting at a high temperature, hematite (α-Fe 2 O 3 ) is obtained while retaining the goethite shape. This hematite is processed using a gas with reducing ability such as hydrogen or carbon monoxide in a fixed bed or fluidized bed reactor.
By reducing at a high temperature of 200 to 400°C, it is possible to obtain the desired iron powder that retains the shape of hematite. The raw iron salt is not particularly limited, and includes chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, carbonates, phosphates, organic acid salts, and hydroxides can also be used as raw materials. In addition to the above method, the desired iron powder can also be obtained by a liquid phase reduction method in which a water-soluble iron salt is reduced with a hydrogenated compound such as boron hydride. In either method, the degree of reduction can be varied from 100%, and iron powder with varying coercive force can be obtained. Conventionally, the iron powder obtained in this way is easily oxidized, so it is stored in a medium excluding nitrogen, inert gas, or oxygen, but in the present invention, the iron powder is stored in a medium excluding nitrogen, inert gas, or oxygen. It is brought into contact with the above-mentioned organic phosphate ester and modified. Contact methods include (1) direct contact and (2)
A method of contacting in a medium is used, usually carried out under normal pressure. As for the contact time between the iron powder and the organic phosphate ester, several seconds is sufficient in method (1), and 1 to 30 minutes is also sufficient in method (2). However, since the iron powder will not be eroded even if it is brought into contact for longer than this contact time,
It can also be stored in a medium containing an organic phosphate, such as toluene. Therefore, in the direct contact method (1), the iron powder is heated or not heated in the organic phosphate ester, so it is immersed, or the iron powder is fluidized in hydrogen, nitrogen, or other inert gas. A convenient method is to spray an organic phosphate ester in the form of a mist.
It is convenient to remove excess organic phosphoric acid ester by washing with a solvent that has a low boiling point and easily evaporates. In addition, in the method (2) of contacting in a medium, it is preferable to dissolve or suspend the organic phosphate ester in the medium and immerse the iron powder therein for treatment. In order to prevent secondary agglomeration of the iron powder, it is convenient to process the iron powder while fluidizing it with a medium. The treated iron powder may be stored in a medium as it is, or may be taken out in a dry state after removing volatile components using a spray dryer, fluidized fluid dryer, etc. The iron powder treated and modified with the organic phosphate ester thus obtained can maintain high coercive force for a long period of time. Therefore, the present invention is useful in providing new magnetic materials for high-density recording to the electronic and audio industries. Next, the present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to Examples. Example Manufacture of iron powder: A 10% aqueous solution of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate
The mixture was heated and maintained at 70°C, and a 10% excess of the theoretical neutralization equivalent of a 10% aqueous solution of sodium carbonate heated to 70°C was immediately added to form ferrous hydroxide. Next, air was blown into the mixture for gentle oxidation to oxidize the ferrous hydroxide to ferric hydroxide. After cooling it to room temperature, it was washed with deionized water and filtered under suction, and the resulting precipitate was air-dried at 110°C for 25 hours to obtain needle-shaped goethite (α-FeOOH).
I got it. This goethite has a length of 0.1 to 0.5 μm and a diameter of
It was confirmed by scanning electron micrograph that it had a needle-like shape of 0.02 to 0.05 μm. This goethite was roasted at 300° C. for 5 hours to obtain hematite (α-Fe 2 O 3 ) that retained its needle-like shape. This was introduced into a gas phase contact type fluidized bed reactor and reduced with hydrogen at 350° C. for 6 hours to obtain iron powder that still retained its acicular shape. Next, nitrogen gas was introduced into the reactor and the reactor was cooled to below about 100°C. Surface modification of iron powder: (1) Industrially obtained monooctyl phosphate was introduced into the same reactor, and while the iron powder was fluidized with nitrogen gas, monooctyl phosphate was sprayed onto the iron powder. . After spraying, the iron powder was transferred from the reactor into methanol. Next, the methanol was suctioned off, and the excess monooctyl phosphate was further washed away with methanol, and the obtained iron powder was dried in nitrogen gas to obtain the iron powder of the present invention. Surface modification of iron powder: (2) In a mixed solution of 5 parts by weight of a mixture of mono-2-ethylhexyl phosphate and bis-2-ethylhexyl phosphate (mixing molar ratio 7:3) and 95 parts by weight of toluene. Iron powder was extruded from the reactor in the example using nitrogen gas.
If necessary, it was taken out and spray-dried in nitrogen gas to obtain iron powder of the present invention. Measurement of changes in coercive force over time: In order to investigate the effects of the present invention, the iron powder obtained by the above two methods and the iron powder before modification were applied as magnetic materials to a polyethylene terephthalate sheet to a thickness of 10 μm using a known method. It was processed to produce a magnetic sheet. This magnetic sheet was tested at a temperature of 60℃ for accelerated diurnal variation of coercive force.
After being kept in an air bath with a relative humidity of 90% for a predetermined time, the coercive force of the magnetic sheet was measured in an external magnetic field of 5000 Oe. The results are shown in Table 1. As can be seen from this result, the iron powder of the present invention has a lower coercive force,
This is significantly improved compared to untreated iron powder. In other words, the present invention is suitable for magnetic sheets at a temperature of 60°C and a relative humidity of 90%.

As Comparative Example 2, the results of the same treatment as in (1) above using tri-octyl phosphate are shown in Table 1, but the coercive force was the same as Comparative Example 1 (untreated iron powder). decreased rapidly, and almost no effect of tri-octyl phosphate was observed. This is understandable, since triesters of phosphoric acid, unlike monoesters and bisesters, no longer have phosphoric acid residues to react with iron to form strong bonds, so this makes iron powder It is thought that even after treatment, the triester merely physically adheres to the iron surface and is easily removed by washing with methanol.
