In the embodiment described above, there are independent movable steps 3 on the left and right sides at the front and rear parts of the lifting platform 2, respectively.
9, but instead of making the left and right movable steps independent, a movable step with a horizontal length approximately equal to the width of the lifting platform 2 or a width shorter than that width is installed in front of the lifting platform. It may be provided so that it can protrude from one side and the other side in the width direction of the lifting/lowering platform at the portion and the rear portion. In this case, the width of the lifting platform can be reduced and the number of step drive devices used can be halved.

According to this invention, the telescoping safety fences 7 and 8, which are opened and closed by the opening/closing drive device 3, are provided on both the left and right sides of the lifting platform 2 of the stacker crane, so that when the stacker crane is running, the lifting platform 2 2, by closing the safety fences 7 and 8, it is possible to reliably prevent the long object 68 from falling due to vibration etc. When carrying in, the safety fences 7 and 8 are opened and the conveyor 11 is operated, so that the long object loaded pallet on the conveyor 11 can be conveyed without any hindrance to the fences. In addition, an endless strip 4 which is circulated and driven by an opening/closing drive device 3 is installed on the side of the lifting platform 2 so as to extend in the front and rear direction, and an end on the intermediate side of the platform in one of the telescoping safety fences 7 is The endless strip body 4
The intermediate side end of the loading platform in the other telescoping safety fence 8 is connected to the other longitudinally movable part 10 in the endless strip 4, so that the common opening/closing By using the drive device 3, the two pairs of front and rear telescoping safety fences 7 and 8 can be opened and closed at the same time in synchronization with a simple mechanism.
