Grinding brush rolls made of synthetic resin fibers such as nylon with abrasive grains attached to or mixed in on one side with a metal strip on one side, polishing brush rolls made of other materials, felt-lined buff rolls, etc. A polishing device for the surface of a metal strip is used, in which a polishing roll is placed on the other side facing the aforementioned roll, and a backup roll made of M is installed to prevent the metal strip from deflecting. The polishing roll of such a polishing device for the surface of a metal strip has a polishing surface wider than the width of the metal strip so that the entire width of the surface of the metal strip to be jointed can be polished, and a part of the polishing surface is continuously polished. Since the surface of the metal strip is constantly in contact with the surface of the metal strip, the part that is in contact with the metal strip wears out and its diameter gradually decreases, while the part that is not in contact with the metal strip does not wear out or its polishing roll The surface of the backup roll was ground by coming into contact with the backup roll located at the opposite position.

If the surface of the metal strip is not polished in the part where the diameter has been reduced due to wear as a narrow width metal band, the surface of the polishing roll in the unworn part and the surface of the polishing roll which has been worn and reduced in diameter will be different from the surface of the metal band. Due to the difference in the contact pressure of the polishing rolls that come into contact with the metal strip, the polishing ability of the surface of the metal strip becomes uneven and uniform polishing cannot be achieved, or the worn and reduced diameter portion does not come into contact with the surface of the metal strip. This poses a problem in that some parts cannot be polished at all. Such problems are caused not only by the formation of a worn and reduced diameter part on the surface of the polishing roll, but also by the fact that the surface edges of the backup roll, which is installed opposite to the polishing roll, are caused by the polishing roll. This is also due to the fact that the metal band bends at the reduced diameter portion due to wear and reduction in diameter. As a result, in the past, in order to polish the entire width of the metal strip surface, the order of the metal strips was set in advance so that the first interconnected metal strip was the widest one, and then the narrower metal strips were sequentially interconnected. If a metal strip with a very narrow width suddenly has to be polished, an extremely uneconomical situation will occur in which the expensive polishing roll cannot be used again. There was a problem.

That is, in the present invention, when polishing the entire width of the surface of the joined metal bands with a polishing roll having a polishing surface larger than the width of the joined metal bands, the edge position of the joined metal bands is detected by a detector and the polishing is performed. A method for polishing a surface of a metal strip, characterized in that the polishing roll is oscillated between positions where both edge positions of the polishing surface of the roll substantially coincide with both edge positions of the metal strip, and a metal strip for carrying out this method. The present invention provides a surface polishing device. [Embodiment 1] The present invention will be described in detail below based on an embodiment shown in the drawings. FIG. 1 is an explanatory plan view of one embodiment of the apparatus of the present invention for carrying out the method of polishing the surface of a metal strip according to the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line A--A in FIG. In the drawing, reference numeral 1 denotes a polishing roll that is installed on one side (upper side in the figure) of the connecting path of the metal strips S and has a polishing surface that is wider than the width of the metal strips S that are connected. Various types of polishing rolls can be used, such as a grinding brush roll made of synthetic resin fibers with abrasive grains attached or mixed therein, a polishing brush roll made of other materials, and a felt-lined buff roll. 2 is a spline shaft into which the polishing roll 1 is inserted;
is rotated by a motor 3 at a constant speed. Reference numeral 4 denotes a sliding screw shaft installed parallel to the spline shaft 2, and the sliding screw shaft 4 can be rotated in either forward or reverse directions by a pulse motor 5. 6 is a sliding flange whose one end is screwed onto the sliding screw shaft 4 and whose other end holds the end of the polishing roll 1; this sliding flange 6 is rotated by the rotation of the sliding screw shaft 4; Slide screw shaft 4
When the polishing roll 1 is moved along the spline shaft 2, the polishing roll 1 is moved along the spline shaft 2. Reference numeral 7 denotes a backup roll that is installed at a position facing the polishing roll 1 and is rotated at a constant speed by a backup roll helper motor 8. This backup roll 7 supports the connected metal strip S and performs polishing. This is to prevent the metal strip S being polished by the roll 1 from being bent, but even if the metal strips S that are connected together are stretched with sufficient tension and the polishing roll 1 is pressed against the metal strip S. This is not necessary if the metal band S is not curved. Reference numeral 9 detects the edge positions of the metal bands S to be joined together and sends a signal to the pulse motor 5 to control the rotation range of the slide screw shaft 4, so that both edge positions of the polishing surface of the polishing roll 1 are adjusted to the respective edge positions of the metal bands S. This is a detector that emits a signal to swing the polishing roll 1 so that it almost coincides with both edge positions, and the sensor 9a that detects the edge position of the metal band S of this detector 9 is a sensor that does not make contact with the metal band S. It is preferable to use a phototube or the like that can detect the edge position of the metal band S without any damage. [Function 1] In order to carry out the method for polishing the surface of a metal strip according to the present invention, the edge position of the metal strip S that is joined together is detected using the polishing apparatus for polishing the surface of a metal strip according to the present invention having the above-described configuration. A pulse signal is emitted from the detector 9 so that both edge positions of the polishing surface of the polishing roll 1, which has a polishing surface wider than the width of the metal band S as detected by the detector 9, almost coincide with both edge positions of the metal band S, respectively. The pulse motor 5 is driven to rotate the sliding screw shaft 4, and the two sliding flanges 6 screwed to the sliding screw shaft 4 are oscillated, and this oscillation causes the polishing roll 1 to be rotated by the motor. (2) by moving the polishing roll 1 along the spline shaft 2, which is rotated at a constant speed by the polishing roll 1, so that the positions of both edges of the polishing surface of the polishing roll 1 approximately coincide with the positions of both edges of the metal band S, respectively. This causes the polishing roll 1 to swing. [Effect 1] As described above, the method for polishing the surface of a metal strip according to the present invention is effective when polishing the entire width of the surface of a metal strip that is connected together using a polishing roll that has a polishing surface that is wider than the width of the metal strip that is connected together. This method detects the edge position of the metal strip with a detector and swings the polishing roll so that the positions of both edges of the polishing surface of the polishing roll almost coincide with the positions of both edges of the metal strip. Despite the use of a polishing roll with a polishing surface that is wider than the width of the metal strip, the polishing surface of the polishing roll wears uniformly over the entire surface, and even if the metal strips to be connected are meandering, Since the position of the band is detected and the polishing roll is oscillated, the effect of uniformly wearing the polishing surface of the polishing roll remains the same.
There is no need to sequentially narrow the width of the metal strip connected to the metal strip surface polishing device as in the past, and metal strips of arbitrary widths can be polished together as appropriate, and there are no restrictions on the use of the metal strip surface polishing device. It has the advantage of being free to use. In addition, when using a backup roll, the polishing roll prevents the surface edges of the backup roll from being worn out and shrinking in diameter, which greatly extends the lifespan of the backup roll and almost eliminates the need for row-9 replacement. This eliminates the need to polish the surface of the metal band uniformly. Furthermore, the apparatus for polishing the surface of a metal strip according to the present invention employs a spline shaft as a shaft that supports the polishing roll, and the polishing roll is moved so that the positions of both edges of the polishing surface of the polishing roll approximately coincide with the positions of both edges of the metal band. A pulse motor driven by a signal from a detector is used as means for swinging the polishing roll, a slide screw shaft is rotated by the pulse motor, and the slide screw shaft is screwed to hold the end of the polishing roll. Since it adopts a simple structure of seven slide langes, it can be manufactured at low cost and easily, and has the advantage of reliable operation and easy maintenance. As described above, the method and apparatus for polishing the surface of a metal strip according to the present invention have tremendous advantages and have great industrial value.
