Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔発明の分野および背景) 本発明は一般的には光学ファイバを利用するセンサに関
し特に、光ファイバを通る光信号を変調するために、光
ファイバを圧縮するマイクロベンドセンサの挾み部材の
ための新規かつ有用な構造に関する。
光源と光検出器との間で光を搬送するのに使用できる光
学ファイバまたは光学ケーブルは知られている。光学フ
ァイバの光は、光学ファイバを湾曲するかま友は歪ませ
ることによシ変調される。
これは、光検出器により受信されそして処理される被変
調信号を生成する。
たとえば渦発生流量計で使用されるタイプのマイクロベ
ンドセンサにおいて、感知本体またはビーム(はり)が
、流量の測定されるべき流体の流れへ延長する。貫流流
体の中にブラン7または障害物を配置することにより、
被数の渦が、プラン7を避けて通りそしてプラツフから
発散(5hed )される流体により形成される。渦は
、それらがビームを通る際にビームを運動させる。渦の
周波数は流量の測定に使用される。
マイクロベンドセンサでは、センサのビームまたはセン
サ本体は、一端部が2つの挾み部材配列の一方の波形挾
み部材に機械的に接続される。他方の波形挾み部材は、
センサのハウジングに固定されそして光フアイバケーブ
ルが、波形挾み部材間に保持される。ビームの連動は光
フアイバケーブルの圧縮および解放を行う。光フアイバ
ケーブルを通る光がこのようにして、流体での渦の通過
に対応する周波数で変調される。この種のマイクロベン
ドセンサでは、光学ファイバの超過応力賦課を回避する
ことに注意が払われねばならない。
これは、ファイバの寿命を低下させる。光7了イパは、
感知動作中だけでなく、挾み部材が初期校正段階である
選択される程度だけ一緒に連−1される校正段階中にも
超過応力が賦課される。挾み部材は不注意により互いに
非常に接近して押圧されて光学ファイバを損傷すること
がある。
〔発明の要約〕
本発明は、挾み部材間に保持される光ファイバに悪影響
を与えることなく、超過荷重を収容できるマイクロベン
ドセンサの挾み部材のための特定の形態に向けられるも
のである。
この目的のために、各波形の挾み部材は、挾み部材間の
相対運動方向に垂直に延長する共通面内にある複数の平
坦領域部を、平坦領域間の複数の突出部と共に有する交
互の波形形状を有する。一方の挾み部材の突起部は他方
の突起部の中間に配置されそして光学ファイバは突起部
間に保持される。挾み部材を互いに押圧する超過荷重状
態にさらされるときに1突起部により、ファイバの一部
が動かされ、各突起部により、別の挾み部材の並置平坦
面に当接される。これは、ファイバを横切って荷重を一
様に分布させそしてファイバの損傷を回避させる。
挾み部材間の相対運動方向での各突起部の長さは、マイ
クロベンドセンサで最大限許容可能な撓みと同等である
よう選択される。これは、たとえば光学ファイバで許容
可能な応力などを含む個々の要因により決定される。光
学ファイバの各部がいったん一方の挾み部材の平坦領域
と接触するまで湾曲されると、それ以上の湾曲は不可能
である。
このようにして、光学ファイバは超過荷重賦課を受けな
い。
標準的な動作中は、光学ファイバを通る光は、挾み部材
の各突起部による光学ファイバの局部湾曲により変調さ
れる。この湾曲は、一方の挾み部材の他方の挾み部材に
ついての運動に対応する信号として読み出すことのでき
る光学ファイバでの光損失を生成する。
それゆえ、本発明の目的は、挾み部材間に保持される光
学ファイバの超過湾曲および超過応力を回避しさらに設
計が簡単で構造が竪牢でかつ製造費用の安価なマイクロ
ベンドセンサのための挾み部材またはプレートを提供す
ることである。
〔好ましい実施例の詳細な説明〕
第1図を参照すると、マイクロベンドセンサが図示され
ており、これは、センサのためのセンサハウジング9の
一側で流体100での渦の通過を感知するのに使用され
、該センサを流体100から隔離するために7ランジ2
2を有する。
センサビーム(はり)10が、センサハウジング9へと
上方に延長する第1上側部分10mを有しそして7ラン
ジ22から流体空間100へ延長する第2下側部分10
bを有する。たとえばセンサハウジング9に接続される
可とう性のダイアフラムの形態の圧力境界手段25が、
センサハウジング9のセンサ空間を、7ラング220対
向側部で流体空間100から隔離する。
センサ組立体が、センサハウジング9のセンサ空間に装
着される。それは、センサノ)ウジング9に固定される
上側7ランジ部分を有する装着ブラケット1を備える。
装着ブラケット1は、センサ組立体を保持するために枠
または取付具を形成する部材1mを有する。センサ組立
体は、はねまたはこれと同様の手段により部材1aに当
接する第1のマイクロペンド挾み部材2を備える。第2
のマイクロベンド挾み部材6が、1)マイクロベンド挾
み部材2との間に配置されるファイバオプチックケーブ
ルまたは光学ケーブル(ファイバ)5と一緒に8g1マ
イクワベンド挾み部材2に保持される。ファイバオプチ
ツクケーブルは、装着ブラケット1に当接するフネクタ
6で終端する。フネクタ6は、光学ケーブル5を通過す
る光を分析するために、光信号を回路系(図示せず)に
結合するのに使用される。
光学ケーブル5は装着ブラケット1により支持されそし
て位置づけされる。第2マイクロベンド挾み部材3は、
複数のボルト13によりセンサビーム10の第1上側部
分10aに固く保持される。流1)1・ 体体空間100で複数の渦21がセンサビームニー10
の第2下側部分10bを通過すると、センサビーム10
は、その圧力境界手段(ダイアフラム)23の回りを回
動せしめられる。この回動運動は、第1マイクロベンド
挾み部材2と協働して光学ファイバ5の圧縮および開放
を行う第2マイクロペンド挾み部材3に伝達される。こ
れは、光学ファイバを通ずる光を変調する。これらの変
調は読み出すことができまた複数渦の通過に対応する。

そして第1マイクマベンド挾み部材2の位置をfAMす
る。これは、初期調整をセンサ組立体に提供する。
第2図は、第1・第2マイクロベンド挾み部材2.5を
その間の光学ファイバ5と一緒に図示する側面図である
。波形は、一方のマイクロベンド挾み部材の波形の複数
の突起部が他方のマイクロ:ベンド挾み部材の波形の複
数の寺会尋谷部の上に乗る簡単なジグザク形のものであ
る。屯し、第2図の第1・第2マイクロペンド挾み部材
2.3が、互いに向い合う方向で超過荷重が賦課される
ならば、それらは、光学ファイバが収容できるよりも小
さな半径で光学ファイバ5の長さを湾曲しよう。
これは光学ファイバに超過応力を賦課し、過度の摩耗ま
たは損傷を招く。
第3図は、挾み部材21および3′にかど突起部2 a
 % 3 mが設けられる配列を図示する。第4図に図
示されているよ°うに、挾み部材が荷重ま念は超過荷重
を受容するときに、挾み部材は、かど突起部2!、3a
によシ許容される程度だけ共に移動できる。これは光学
ファイバ5の湾曲の度合を制限する。

、精密許容差を要求する。
本発明の挾み部材が第5図および第6図に図示されてい
る。

1)は、突起部2C13Cにより区分される平坦領域部
2b、5bが構成される波状部分を有する。一方の挾み
部材の突起部は各々、牌の挾み部材の平坦領域部に対面
しそして光学ファイバ5は挾み部材の突起部間で保持さ
れる。
第5図は、突起部2Cまたは3Cの高さに制限される最
大重だけ共に可動である挾み部材21′151+と一緒
に標準調節位置を図示する。
第6図は、挾み部材3 IIの突起部3Cおよび挾み部
材21′の突起部2cが、光学ファイバ5の湾曲部を各
々平坦領域部2b、3bへ押圧した超過荷重状態を図示
する。
本発明によれば、光学ファイバ5の各部は、突起部2e
−,3cの高さと波形の周期とファイバ直径とにより確
保されるある選択される最小限の半径までのみ湾曲され
る。
各平坦領域部2b、3bは、6挾み部材各々で、挾み部
材2 II、31)の相対変位方向に垂直に延長する単
一面内にある。
異なる波形模様が、挾み部材のために使用することも可
能である。たとえば、平坦面は、挾み部材間の空間につ
いて、わずかに凹形とすることもできる。これは、超過
荷重状態中に応力を低減するため((、ファイバと挾み
部材との間に線接触部を作り出すことができる。挾み部
材の面は、接触応力ならびに衝突による応力を低減する
ために、挾み部材の残部に比して、よシ柔い材料、恐ら
〈弾性材料によってもまた作ることができる。同様の理
由のために、7アイ“バ自身は、たとえばアルミニウム
などで被装することもできる。一方の挾み部材だけに復
数平坦面を使用して、別の挾み部材をより安価にするこ
とも可能であろう。少なくとも2つだけ、平坦領域を使
用することも可能である。

Claims (5)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. (1)マイクロベンドセンサのための挾み部材配列体に
    おいて、 光学ファイバをその間に保持するために、対面する波形
    面を各々有し、光学ファイバを湾曲して光学ファイバを
    通る光を変調するために互いに可動である一対の挾み部
    材を備え、 各波形面は、挾み部材の相対運動方向に垂直な方向で共
    通面内にある複数の平坦領域を有し、さらに、挾み部材
    の相対運動方向に延長し、前記平坦領域と交互である複
    数の突起部を備え、前記挾み部材の一方の突起部は、光
    学ファイバを挾み部材間で湾曲するために他方の挾み部
    材の平坦領域の上に配置され、前記挾み部材は超過荷重
    状態下で共に可動であるので光学ファイバは一方の挾み
    部材の突起部により、他方の挾み部材の平坦領域に向か
    って湾曲される挾み部材配列体。
  2. (2)各挾み部材の各突起部の高さは、前記挾み部材の
    相対運動方向で、前記挾み部材間の最大相対移動量と同
    等に選択される特許請求の範囲第1項記載の挾み部材配
    列体。
  3. (3)各平坦領域は、前記挾み部材間の空間について凹
    である特許請求の範囲第1項記載の挾み部材配列体。
  4. (4)各挾み部材は、その接触領域で、各挾み部材の残
    部よりも柔軟な材料から作られる特許請求の範囲第1項
    記載の挾み部材配列体。
  5. (5)マイクロベンドセンサのための挾み部材配列体に
    おいて、 光学ファイバをその間に有する一対の挾み部材プレート
    を有し、前記挾み部材プレートの少なくとも一つは、光
    学ファイバを湾曲するために、前記挾み部材の相対運動
    の互いに向く方向および離れる方向に垂直な面内に少な
    くとも2つの平坦領域を、前記挾み部材間の相対運動方
    向に延長する前記平坦領域間の少なくとも一つの突起部
    と一緒に有する挾み部材配列体。
