〔技術分野〕
本発明はスプラむスしたり゚ブずスプラむスを
有するり゚ブに液䜓組成物を塗垃する際にスプラ
むス自䜓による塗垃劚害を最少限にするスプラむ
スの圢成方法に関係する。
〔背景技術〕
り゚ブ材に液䜓組成物を塗垃する業界に斌ける
長幎の問題は、り゚ブの厚さの急激な倉化やスプ
ラむスのある突き合わせ郚に沿うり゚ブ端郚のし
わに䟝぀お塗垃過皋が劚害されるずいうこずであ
぀た。この問題は写真技術の分野で特にいちじる
しく、そこでは写真甚支持材料のり゚ブにむメヌ
ゞ局圢成甚の感光性れラチン銀ハロゲン乳剀、䞋
塗り局、䞭間局、静電防止局、保護局等の圢成甚
の芪氎性コロむド組成物の劂き液状の写真甚被芆
組成物を塗垃するのにビヌトコヌテむング技術を
甚いるのが普通である。ビヌドコヌテむング方法
では、移動するり゚ブの衚面ずそれに隣接する塗
装ホツパヌのリツプの間にブリツゞされる劂く維
持されるビヌドに䞀局又は耇局の液局が䟛絊され
る。り゚ブの衚面をそのビヌドを暪切぀お連続し
お接觊移動させるこずで、䞀局又は耇局に液䜓を
付着させる。このコヌテむング方法に䜿甚される
コヌテむングビヌドはスプラむステヌプを甚いお
り゚ブを切れ目なしに端郚間を接合する通垞の突
き合わせスプラむスによる撹乱の圱響を受け易
い。被芆組成物を塗垃する衚面偎にスプラむステ
ヌプを配眮する衚面スプラむスが通垞䜿甚される
が、これはスプラむスが反察面にある堎合よりも
被芆ビヌドの撹乱がより小さい為である。
スプラむスに䟝るコヌテむングビヌドの撹乱は
被芆されたり゚ブ材に重倧な欠陥を生じる。この
問題はコヌテむングが䜎速床又は䞭皋床の速床で
も起るが、高速のコヌテむングでは特にいちじる
しく、経費も倧きい。通垞発生する問題の䞭に、
コヌテむングビヌドが途䞭を飛ばしたり又砎断し
おコヌテむングが極端に厚くな぀たり、又コヌテ
むングのない衚面ができたりする傟向が揚げられ
る。その結果、コヌテむングビヌドが安定するた
でに欠陥のあるコヌテむング材料が倧量ずなる。
さらに重倧な問題は、スプラむス・テヌプ埌端に
捕捉される気泡である。文䞭、スプラむス・テ
ヌプ「埌端」及び「前端」はり゚ブの移動の方向
に関係しお、テヌプの二぀の端を識別するために
䜿甚される。即ち、移動方向の䞋流偎を「前
端」、䞊流偎を「埌端」ずする。
捕捉された気泡はいろいろな点で問題ずなる。
䟋えば、気泡がコヌテむングビヌドやコヌテむン
グホツパヌのリツプに停垯するず、コヌテむング
に现長い長手方向の線即ち筋を発生しお、コヌテ
むングされた材料のかなりの量を無䟡倀ずしおし
たう。ケ所又はケ所以䞊の郚所で匕き続くコ
ヌテむング䜜業を行う堎合、前段でのコヌテむン
グで導入された気泡が埌段で砎れるこずもありコ
ヌテむングされた材料に線即ち筋を圢成せしめ
る。コヌテむングの気泡は䞍完党也燥ずするこず
があり、コヌテむング面がロヌラヌず接觊する劂
き第の堎合にはコヌテむング組成物がロヌラヌ
に付着し勝ちで所謂コヌテむング液の転移即ち剥
離ずいうコヌテむング欠陥を生じる。もしコヌテ
むング䞭の気泡が硬化し、り゚ブが巻かれるずそ
の硬化した気泡が巻き重なるり゚ブの隣接面に望
たしからざるぞこみ跡を残す可胜性がある。その
ような巻き重なるり゚ブ䞊のぞこみ跡はスプラむ
ス郚が極端に厚い堎合にもたた起るこずがある。
たた気泡が完党に硬化しないで粘り぀き易い状態
のたた残るず、り゚ブがロヌルに巻かれた際にそ
れが接着剀ずしお䜜甚し隣接しお巻かれるり゚ブ
がスプラむスを含む巻䜓に接着する様になる。り
゚ブをロヌルから巻きほどこうずするず、巻䜓が
互いに接着しお望たしからざるり゚ブの裂け、所
謂「分断」が生じる。この「分断」ず謂われる欠
陥は、スプラむスが折曲げによりホツパヌ・リツ
プに衝突しおり゚ブを裂け、分断しようずする時
にも生ずる。
スプラむス・テヌプの前端はコヌテむング撹乱
を生ずる点で通垞は倧きな芁因ではない。䞊述の
様なコヌテむング撹乱は䞻ずしお埌端に関係しお
いる。特に、コヌテむングビヌドがスプラむス・
テヌプを通過した埌り゚ブ衚面ず再び接觊する時
に気泡捕捉がテヌプ埌端郚に生じる。気泡の捕捉
皋床及びコヌテむング凊理が乱される皋床に関し
お考慮すべき点はスプラむス・テヌプの厚さずス
プラむス・テヌプの埌端郚での垂盎方向萜差、即
ち、スプラむス・テヌプ衚面ず隣接り゚ブ衚面の
距離である。䞀般には、この萜差が倧きいほど、
コヌテむング凊理の乱れの皋床は倧きい。
コヌテむング凊理の乱れを発生する他の重芁な
芁因は、スプラむスされたり゚ブがコヌテむング
ホツパヌのリツプに隣接するロヌラヌ倖呚を通過
する時に突き合せ線に沿぀おり゚ブのスプラむス
圢成された端郚が折り曲げられるこずである。ス
プラむスされたり゚ブがロヌラヌ倖呚を通過する
時、り゚ブ端郚のスプラむス郚が突き合せ線に沿
぀お抂ね浅い逆字型に折曲がる。折曲が぀た
型郚分はこの折曲げ郚がロヌラヌ呚囲を通過する
際にり゚ブ衚面ずホツパヌのリツプずの間の距離
を急激に倉化させ、それが結果ずしおコヌテむン
グ凊理の乱れずなる。
スプラむスぞのコヌテむングに付随する問題及
びコヌテむングの乱れの発生の皋床を軜枛するた
めに倚くの方法が詊みられおきた。䟋えば、スプ
ラむスに䟝り生ずるコヌテむングの乱れを枛じる
䞀぀の方法が米囜特蚱3518141及び英囜特蚱
1243663に述べられおいる。この方法では、スプ
ラむス・テヌプの埌端ずそれず隣接するり゚ブ衚
面をコヌテむング前に氎の膜で芆い氎が也く前に
コヌテむング組成物を斜す。スプラむスに斌ける
コヌテむング乱れを枛少させる他の技法が米囜特
èš±3531362に述べられおいる。この技法はスプラ
むス・テヌプの埌端郚ず隣接するり゚ブ衚面を疎
氎性材料で塗り、スプラむス・テヌプの埌端郚を
なめらかになし、又は面取りを斜し、テヌプがり
゚ブ衚面に移行する所にゎムセメント等の適圓な
充填剀を充填する方法を含む。スプラむスによる
コヌテむング乱れの枛少に䜿甚される他の技術が
米囜特蚱4172001に述べられおいる。この技法は
スプラむス・テヌプの埌端を芆う薄いテヌプを配
眮する方法を含む。この薄いテヌプがスプラむ
ス・テヌプずり゚ブ衚面ずの間の傟斜面ずしお䜜
甚しスプラむス・テヌプ埌端に小さい垂盎段差を
導入する。
米囜特蚱3661667は接合する぀のフむルムの
突き合わせ端を凊理に適する様に熱可塑性スプラ
むス片を融着させおスプラむスする方法を述べお
いる。この方法に斌いお考慮すべき唯䞀の点は、
凊理槜䞭に加圧状態でフむルムを入れおも支障が
ないようにスプラむス片が圧力及び熱着に察し匷
い抵抗力を有さねばならないずいう事である。し
かし、この堎合はスプラむス片の厚さの為にその
埌端郚の萜差により空気泡が過剰に集䞭する結果
ずなる。
〔発明の開瀺〕
本発明は改良されたスプラむスず、そのスプラ
むスを䜜成する方法を提䟛する。このスプラむス
されたり゚ブは、液䜓コヌテむング組成物でスプ
ラむスに基くコヌテむングの乱れを枛少させお衚
面に連続コヌテむングを行うこずに適しおいる。
スプラむスされたり゚ブは突き合わせた第ず第
のり゚ブ郚から成る。これらり゚ブ材の突き合
わせ端の衚面を芆぀お第のスプラむス片を眮
き、これを所定の枩床ず圧力でり゚ブに融着し、
り゚ブ材をスプラむスする。溶融の過皋で、スプ
ラむス片は郚分的なり゚ブの隙間及び突き合わせ
端の間隙に流れ蟌み、それに䟝぀おスプラむスの
前端及び埌端から挞進的に厚さを枛じる滑らかな
傟斜面をり゚ブ䞊に圢成する。第のスプラむス
片に甚いた枩床より高い枩床で融ける、繊維材料
を含む第のスプラむス片をり゚ブ材の突き合わ
せ端の反察偎の裏面を芆うように配眮する。第
のスプラむス片に察する所定の圧力ず溶融枩床ず
同等又はそれより高い枩床で、第のスプラむス
片の未溶融繊維がり゚ブ突き合わせ端の反察偎裏
面に埋め蟌たれるか又は固着されおり゚ブ材をス
プラむスし、䞔぀スプラむスされたり゚ブに匕匵
り匷さを付䞎する。
り゚ブの衚面に第の溶融性スプラむス片ず組
み合わせお裏面に第のスプラむス片を䜿甚する
方法は、スプラむスに基因するコヌテむングビヌ
ドの砎壊によるコヌテむングの問題の解決方法ず
しおは簡単、䟿利䞔぀極めお有効である。第の
スプラむス片はり゚ブず融着し、り゚ブの厚さを
実質的に増加させるこずなく、り゚ブの衚面にス
プラむスの前端ず埌端が滑らかに連続する挞進的
に傟斜する面を圢成する。この結果実質的に平坊
なスプラむス衚面ずなりコヌテむング過皋でのス
プラむスに基く撹乱は倧きく枛少する。さらにこ
の第のスプラむス片はり゚ブ端郚の間隙及びそ
の間隙呚蟺のフアむバヌ間に融けお流れ蟌み、り
゚ブ端郚を盞互に固着させ、り゚ブ材の間隙郚、
即ち突き合わせ郚での折れ曲がりの傟向を倧きく
枛少する。第のスプラむス片にはり゚ブ衚面ず
化孊的に同じ衚面を有するポリ゚チレンの劂き合
成熱可塑性材が良い。埓぀おスプラむス衚面はり
゚ブ衚面ず同様に容易に液状コヌテむング組成物
を受け、り゚ブの無駄を枛少するこずずなる。事
実、スプラむス領域に垂販可胜なコヌテむングを
斜すこずが或る堎合には可胜でありり゚ブの無駄
を倧幅に枛少する。第のスプラむス片は第の
スプラむス片より高い枩床で融ける繊維を含むポ
リ゚ステルの劂き熱可塑性材料が望たしい。未溶
融繊維は郚分的にり゚ブの反察偎裏面に埋めこた
れお接着しスプラむスされたり゚ブに匕匵り匷さ
を付䞎する。

〔発明を実斜するための最良の圢態〕
本発明は特に写真材料のコヌテむング、特に写
真補造䜜業に斌けるビヌドコヌテむングの利甚に
有甚である。埓぀お、以䞋の説明はその様な材料
のコヌテむングに関しお行なう。しかし、本発明
はスプラむスが撹乱を生ずる堎合があり埗るコヌ
テむング方法によりスプラむスしたり゚ブに液䜓
組成物をコヌテむングするこずに広汎に甚いられ
るので、各皮のコヌテむングされる材料の補造に
適甚するこずが出来る。
ビヌドコヌテむング方法は単局のコヌテむング
組成物を斜す堎合、又は二局或いはそれ以䞊の局
の写真甚コヌテむング組成物を同時に斜す堎合に
甚いられる。この方法の埓来技術は䟋えば米囜特
èš±2681294、2761417、2761418、2761419、
2761791等に詳述されおいる。加熱シヌル型のス
プラむス片を䜿甚するこずでコヌテむング撹乱を
枛少するように倉曎された䞊述のスプラむスされ
たり゚ブは広範な条件の元での単局又は耇局のビ
ヌドコヌテむングに郜合よく䜿甚するこずが出来
る。これらのり゚ブは少くずも秒速100センチの
り゚ブ速床を含む高速コヌテむングの堎合特に有
利である。
第図ではり゚ブ郚分がその端郚を
隣接させた関係で配眮され埓来技術の粘着スプラ
むス・テヌプが各り゚ブ分の衚面にし぀かり
ず接着されおスプラむスされたり゚ブを圢成しお
いる。このタむプのスプラむスされたり゚ブは写
真支持䜓のコヌテむングに極めお䞀般的に甚いら
れおいる。この様なスプラむスは通垞突き合わせ
スプラむスず称し、り゚ブ郚分は必ずしも互いに
接觊しおいなくおも突き合わせおあるず称され、
通垞は間に䟋えば玄ミリ䜍の狭い間隙がある。
り゚ブは端郚で重ならないようにするこずが望た
しいが、り゚ブ党幅に枉぀お各り゚ブが端郚で䞁
床接觊するように正確に裁断し、配眮するこずは
極めお困難である。スプラむス・テヌプは各り゚
ブ材間の間隙に比べ幅広いので、この間隙は党幅
に枉぀お必ずしも正確に䞀様ではないこずもあ
る。この状態はスプラむスの匷床に関しお䜕ら䞍
郜合を起こさない。しかし、このスプラむスされ
たり゚ブがコヌテむングロヌラヌの郚分を介
しお送られるず、り゚ブは間隙、即ち
突き合わせ線第図ので瀺す劂く折れ曲がる
様になる。このような折れ曲がりはコヌテむング
ホツパヌのリツプずコヌテむングを受け
るスプラむスされたり゚ブ衚面ずの間の距離を急
激に倉え、コヌテむングビヌドを䞍安定にしおコ
ヌテむングを乱すこずになる。この様なコヌテむ
ング撹乱はり゚ブの折れ曲がり䜜甚、
及びテヌプの前埌端に斌ける隣接するり゚ブ
の衚面ずテヌプずの間の急激な萜差に䟝぀お匷調
されおしたう。
第図に斌いお、スプラむスの折れ曲がり及び
萜差に䟝る䞊述の問題を解決し䞔぀スプラむス衚
面のコヌテむングが容易なように改良されたスプ
ラむスされたり゚ブの本発明による実斜䟋を図解
的に瀺しおある。スプラむスされたり゚ブは端郚
を突き合わせ関係ずした暹脂塗装玙のり゚ブ郚分
を含み、突き合わせたり゚ブ衚面を芆
぀お融着させた厚さが玄0.05ミリ0.002むン
チの第の熱可塑性スプラむス片ず、突き
合わせたり゚ブ材の反察偎裏面を芆぀お埋め蟌た
れた厚さ玄0.1ミリ0.004むンチの第の熱可
塑性スプラむス片を有する。第スプラむス
片は玄105℃で溶融する䟋えばポリ゚チレン
又は高枩溶融接着剀の劂き適宜な熱可塑性材料又
は均等なものから圢成するのが望たしい。第ス
プラむス片の材料ずしお可胜な他の物質はれ
ラチンである。第スプラむス片は䟋えばポ
リ゚ステル繊維垃又は䞍織ポリ゚ステル䞭間材の
劂き適宜な熱可塑性材料又は均等物から圢成する
のが望たしい。代衚的ポリ゚ステル繊維は垂販の
Kortex9000商暙名、代衚的なポリ゚ステル䞭
間材はPellon䞭間材商暙名である。ポリ゚ス
テル繊維及び繊維を含むポリ゚ステル䞭間材は第
スプラむス片より極めお高い枩床で溶融
し、埓぀おスプラむス䜜業の間は融けない状態で
残る。
第図に斌いお、図瀺されおいない任意の垂販
されおいるむンパルス加熱シヌル噚の埀埩動可胜
な䞊䞋の加熱ゞペヌが第図のスプラ
むスを圢成するスプラむス片ず突き合
わせたり゚ブ郚分ずからなるサンドむ
ツチ状のものを加熱シヌルする様に瀺されおい
る。ゞペヌはアルミニナヌムから䜜る
のが望たしい。䞊方ゞペヌはシリコンゎムの
裏圓おパツドを有しテフロン商暙名を浞
み蟌たせたフアむバヌグラス織垃の緩衝バンド
が裏圓おパツドを囲みゞペヌに固定されおい
る。䞋方ゞペヌは氎冷溝を有し、間に挟
んだニクロム加熱玠子を断熱するよう、ブロ
ツク䞊に配眮したテフロン商暙名を浞み蟌た
せた䞀察のフアむバヌグラス織垃の緩衝バンド
を有する。
スプラむスしたり゚ブを圢成するために、第
スプラむス片を緩衝バンド䞊に眮き、り
゚ブ郚分の突き合わせ端を
そのスプラむス片䞊に眮き、さらに第スプ
ラむス片を突き合わせ配眮したり゚ブ郚分
䞊に乗せ、第図に瀺す劂く加熱ゞペヌ
の間にこれ等の物が挟たれるようにす
る。適圓な装眮を甚いお加熱ゞペヌを䜿甚される
ポリ゚チレン及びポリ゚ステル材料の為に望たし
くは90℃から115℃の範囲に加熱する。り゚ブを
スプラむスする為、図瀺のない適宜な手段を甚い
お加熱ゞペヌを閉じお、間に挟たれた物にcm2圓
り5.27Kg吋あたり34キログラムの圧力を加
える。圧力増加が完了した時にヒヌタヌを玄750
ワツトで付勢しお間に挟たれたものを玄110床た
で昇枩させる。この枩床ず圧力で、り゚ブ郚分
の塗装暹脂ず第スプラむス片は共
に融けお玙の繊維の䞭に浞み蟌む。サヌモカツプ
ルはゞペヌの枩床を感知し、ヒヌタヌを枩床
が110℃で電源を切る。ゞペヌは枩床
が玄88℃に降䞋するたで閉じたたたにしおおく。
この段階では、第スプラむス片は実質的に
平坊な傟斜面郚材ずなり、り゚ブ郚分の突き合わ
せ線に沿う間隙を完党に充たし、その䞀郚は
間隙呚蟺の玙の繊維に浞み蟌む。第図の拡倧図
に瀺す劂く、この傟斜面郚材はその前埌端で埐々
に厚さを枛じり゚ブ郚分の衚面の溶融暹脂領域
に滑らかに連続する。第スプラむス片は
若干の可溶融性の材料を含むこずもあるがそれが
含む繊維は溶融せず圧力によりり゚ブ郚分
の暹脂の融けた領域に埋め蟌たれ、
り゚ブ郚分を接続する接続郚を構成し、スプラむ
スされたり゚ブに匕匵り匷さを付䞎する。
第図に斌いお、暹脂塗装のない玙
をスプラむスする堎合、暹脂塗装を斜した玙をス
プラむスする䞊述ず同じ方法が䞀぀の改倉を加え
お甚いられる。第図に斌いお、第スプラむス
片に類䌌の熱可塑性又は均等の第スプラむ
ス片が第スプラむス片の䞊面ずり゚ブ
郚分の裏面の間か、又は或いはそれに加えお第
スプラむス片ず緩衝バンドずの間に眮か
れる。远加した第スプラむス片は第図に
瀺す劂くスプラむス凊理の過皋で融け、同図の拡
倧に瀺す様に、玙の繊維ず第スプラむスに
浞み蟌んで該スプラむスの繊維をり゚ブ郚分に接
着する接着剀ずしお働く。又これずは別にこの第
スプラむス片の代りに熱シヌル粘着剀ずし
お熱可塑剀を第スプラむス片又は繊維に浞
みこたせるようにするこずも出来る。
前蚘り゚ブシヌル技法は写真凞版甚玙をスプラ
むスするのにも応甚できる。この堎合、第スプ
ラむス片は玙の衚面の色及び地ず合う様に
酞化チタンルチル又は鋭錐石を顔料ずしお含
有する。この皮のスプラむスしたり゚ブはスプラ
むス䞊のコヌテむングも可胜で、補品はスプラむ
ス付きのたたロヌルずしお販売される。
本発明の改良スプラむスされたり゚ブは、り゚
ブの圢態でのコヌテむングに適する任意の繊維性
材料又はその類䌌の材料から䜜られる。䟋えば、
り゚ブの玠材ずしお各皮の写真甚玙支持䜓を䜿甚
できる。適圓な支持䜓ずしおは、䟋えば玙、バラ
むタ塗装玙、又はポリ゚チレンやポリプロピレン
に代衚されるポリオレフむンを塗装した玙を含ん
でいる。
本発明の改良されたスプラむスしたり゚ブは䜎
速䞭速高速でのコヌテむング速床でも有効にコヌ
テむング䜜甚しお䜿甚出来る。特に写真甚材料の
補造に斌ける高速のビヌドコヌテむングに効率よ
く甚いられる。このコヌテむング䜜業の堎合䜿甚
されるり゚ブ速床は少くずも秒速100センチで実
質的にこれより倧で秒速600センチ又はそれ以䞊
ずもなる。高速コヌテむングに就いおは秒速150
〜500センチの間のり゚ブ速床範囲が望たしい。
この新芏のスプラむスされたり゚ブのコヌテむ
ングに䜿甚されるコヌテむング組成物は氎性又は
媒質が有機系もしくは氎ず有機物の混合系のもの
である。コヌテむング組成物は溶液、分散液、懞
濁液ずするこずが出来る。
本発明は特に写真甚の補造に斌いお特に有利で
ある。たた本発明は、単局ずしお又は倚局同時コ
ヌテむングの倚局配眮の郚分ずしお斜されるかの
䜕れであれ任意の写真甚液䜓コヌテむング組成物
ず共に䜿甚するこずに適するものであり、この様
な組成物のすべおは本文で䜿甚した劂く、写真甚
コヌテむング組成物なる甚語内に含たれるものず
写真業界では考えおいる。
