However, with this kind of scrap preheating equipment, if the metal scrap to be preheated is of poor quality, foul odors and white smoke will be generated during preheating from oil and paint adhering to its surface, and secondary pollution caused by this will become a problem. was. As a countermeasure, a recycling duct is installed to return the exhaust gas that has passed through the preheating chamber to the exhaust gas port of the arc furnace, and the exhaust gas containing foul odors and white smoke is guided to the exhaust gas port, and the exhaust gas is combusted using the exhaust heat of the arc furnace. However, when the temperature inside the furnace has not risen sufficiently, such as immediately after operation or when replacing scrap, the temperature of the exhaust gas discharged from the arc furnace is low, so it passes through the preheating chamber and generates a bad odor. There still remained the problem that exhaust gas containing white smoke was released directly into the atmosphere.

The signal from the detected detector causes the burner to burn and the exhaust gas in the recycling duct is combusted within the duct. This allows white smoke and bad odors generated from oil and paint adhering to metal scrap to be directly released into the atmosphere. This prevents it from being released inside.

In the figure, reference numeral 1 denotes an arc furnace for melting metal scrap S1.An exhaust duct 3 is connected to an exhaust gas port 2 of the arc furnace 1, and a combustion chamber 4 is installed at the other end of the exhaust duct 3. This combustion chamber 4 is provided to appropriately supply secondary air to the exhaust gas discharged from the arc furnace 1 to combust unburned gas, and a part of the exhaust gas burned here is sent to another exhaust duct 5.
The air is then sent to a dust collector 6 such as a bag filter, where harmful substances are removed and released into the atmosphere. On the other hand, a branch duct 7 is provided in the combustion chamber 4 in addition to the exhaust duct 5, and one end of the branch duct 7 is connected to a preheating chamber 8. The preheating chamber 8 and the exhaust duct 3 communicating with the exhaust gas port 2 are connected by a recycle duct 9, and a burner 10 is provided in the middle of the recycle duct 9. On the other hand, the exhaust duct 3 is provided with a detector 11 that detects the temperature of the exhaust gas or the presence or absence of a flame, closer to the exhaust gas port 2 than the confluence A of the exhaust duct 3 and the recycling duct 9.
The detector 11 and the burner 10 are connected to a combustion control circuit 12.

Lead to room 8. This adjustment is performed by dampers 5a and 7a. And the metal scraps put into the preheating chamber 8
Preheat S 2 to the temperature of its exhaust gas. At this time, a foul odor and white smoke are generated from the oil, paint, etc. adhering to the surface of the metal scrap S2 , and the exhaust gas accompanied by this foul odor and white smoke is led to the exhaust duct 3 through the recycling duct 9, and is led to the arc furnace. The foul odor and white smoke are incinerated by joining the high-temperature exhaust gas discharged from the arc furnace 1, but immediately after the arc furnace 1 starts operating, or when the scrap is replaced, Even if the exhaust gas in the recycling duct 9 is merged into the exhaust duct 3 due to the low temperature, the foul odor and white smoke cannot be burned. Therefore, the exhaust gas port 2 of the arc furnace 1

This is advantageous in that it can reliably prevent the occurrence of secondary pollution due to scrap preheating regardless of the operating status of the arc furnace.
