一般にメカニカルシールは第1図に示す様に固
定環やシールリングB,B等よりなる不動部分と
回定軸J或はスリーブ等に対して浮いた状態で回
転軸Jと共に回動するシールリングCを含む回転
環D等よりなる部分及びバネE、取付環F、セツ
トスクリユーG及びドライブピンH等よりなる回
転軸Jに固定されて回動する部分とより構成され
ている。而してこのメカニカルシールを結晶が析
出し易い液や、液中に含有されている粒子が固ま
りやすい液の密封に用いるとき、メカニカルシー
ルの上記の浮いた状態で可動している回転環Dと
回転軸Jとの間隙に固形物Kが溜り、回転環Dの
浮動効果を阻止させることが多かつた。この回転
環Dの効果は取付環Fと固定環Aとの間にあつ
て、回転軸Jの振動を吸収すると共に固定環Aと
の摺動面が摩耗した場合もバネEの力によつて常
に固定環Aと密接に接合して液の浸入を防止する
作用をすることであつて、このために回転環Dは
謂所浮いた状態で回転しているもので、前記の様
に回転軸Jと回転環Dとの間に固形物がはいると
浮いた状態が阻止され、回転軸Jの振動を吸収す
ることが出来ず又、固定環Aとの接触も阻害され
ることになる。

二分に発揮し得る等極めて実用的効果の高いもの
