Conventionally, there have been two main methods for producing thin wires with circular cross sections from molten metal materials. One is a method that goes through manufacturing processes such as melting → ingot making → sintering → hot drawing → intermediate sintering → cold drawing, and the other is a continuous casting method, that is, melting → continuous casting → sintering. This is a manufacturing method that goes through pure → hot drawing → intermediate sintering → cold drawing, etc.

In either method, it is necessary to repeat the process of sintering → drawing → sintering → drawing several dozen times to obtain a thin metal wire with a circular cross section of about 1 mm in diameter, for example, depending on the material. Therefore, various problems have been encountered, such as a complicated manufacturing process, high equipment costs, poor yields, and the need for precise control in continuous casting.

Another conventional thin wire manufacturing method that has recently attracted attention is the method disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 55-64948. This method is a method for directly manufacturing thin wire from a melt, and as shown in FIG. In this method, a thin wire is produced by forming a liquid layer, injecting molten metal 3 as a jet into this liquid layer, and solidifying it.

The disadvantage of this method is that it is not suitable for mass production because the molten metal is injected into a cylindrical drum with limited space. That is, in order to mass-produce thin wires using this method, the drum 1 must be made larger, and a large drive source for rotating the enlarged drum is also required, which is uneconomical. Therefore, in practice it could only be produced in laboratory quantities. Furthermore, this method has disadvantages such as the complicated apparatus for carrying out the process and difficulty in control, and the poor roundness and casting surface of the produced thin metal wire.

On the other hand, although it is not a method for manufacturing thin metal wires with a circular cross section, a manufacturing method called the single roll method is known for manufacturing a ribbon-shaped material from a molten material (Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 1983-57).
−156863). This method involves jetting a molten material onto the surface of a roll and solidifying it, and is generally used when manufacturing amorphous metals. Although this method allows mass production of ribbon-shaped materials, it is not possible to produce thin metal wires with a circular cross section.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a nozzle for spouting a melt of a thin wire material to be manufactured, and a nozzle for spouting the melt spouted from the nozzle by driving the outer surface at a circumferential speed of 5 meters/second or less. A roll that is attached to the outer surface to be cooled and solidified, a water supply means that supplies water from upstream of the melt to the roll from upstream of the melt that has weak wettability to the melt and maintains the surface tension of the melt, and a water supply means that supplies water onto the roll. The present invention proposes a thin wire manufacturing apparatus that is equipped with a means for blowing off excess water out of the water by gas pressure to form a uniform layer of water, and that produces thin wires with a circular cross section.

Since the conventional single roll method described above is mainly used to manufacture amorphous metals, the rotational speed of the roll is high, such as several thousand rpm, that is, the circumferential speed of the roll is several tens to hundreds of meters/second. The ejected melt did not form a thin metal wire with a circular cross section on the outer surface of the roll, but formed into a ribbon shape. this is,
This is because in order to turn the melt into an amorphous metal, it must be cooled at a high rate.

Furthermore, a possible reason why the cross section is not circular is that the material of the roll is a material that has good wettability with respect to the melt, that is, a material that has strong wettability.

Therefore, in the present invention, it was decided not to increase the rotational speed of the roll, in other words, the circumferential speed of the roll more than necessary. Specifically, the range should be kept within 5 meters/second at the most.

In addition, the material of the roll is made of a material with poor wettability, that is, a material with weak wettability, so that the surface tension of the melt can be maintained and a thin metal wire with a circular cross section can be manufactured.

As a result of various studies, it has been found that the best thin metal wire can be obtained by forming a layer of a material weakly wettable to the molten material on the outer surface of the roll from which the molten material is ejected. The purpose of layering is to improve the roundness of the thin metal wire and improve the casting surface of the thin wire.

FIG. 2 shows the first part of the thin metal wire manufacturing apparatus according to the present invention.
An example is shown. A nozzle 12 is provided above the outer surface of a roll 11 that is rotatably provided clockwise. A heater 13 is placed around this nozzle 12.
is attached, and the nozzle 12 is attached to the holder 14.
has been checked. The inside of the nozzle 12 is filled with a molten metal material 15, and a pressure controller 16 for controlling the pressure of the molten material 15 is connected to the base of the nozzle. Below the roll 11 is a water tank 18 for receiving water 17 falling from the roll 11.
A pressure supply pipe 20 and a water supply pipe 21 are provided on the left side surface of the roll 11 for blowing gas for peeling the thin metal wire 19 having a circular cross section from the roll 11. Solenoid valves 22 and 23 are attached to these pressure supply pipe 20 and water supply pipe 21, respectively. Further to the left side of the roll 11, a forming roll 24 is provided to further improve the roundness of the peeled thin metal wire with a substantially circular cross section.
A winding roll 25 is provided further to the left side of the winding roll 25 for winding up the formed thin metal wire having a circular cross section.

The raw material in the heat-resistant nozzle 12, which is connected to the holder 14, is melted by the heater 13. The melted material 15 is ejected from a nozzle 12 having a round ejection port onto the surface of the roll 11 rotating at a low speed by the gas pressure of the pressure controller 16. In this case, a solenoid valve 23 is provided on the surface of the roll 11.
Water is flowed from the water supply pipe 21 through the roll surface, and excess water adhering to the roll surface is blown off by gas pressure from the pressure supply pipe 20 via the electromagnetic valve 22, forming a layer of water with a uniform thickness. The ejected melt 15 adheres to the roll 11 while maintaining surface tension and forming a circular cross section while being cooled and solidified. after that,
The roll 11 is forcibly moved by the gas pressure of the pressure supply pipe 20.
It is peeled off and becomes a thin metal wire with a circular cross section. This blowing of gas from the pressure supply pipe 20 has two roles: blowing away excess moisture and peeling off the thin metal wire with a circular cross section.

What is important here is to cool and solidify the ejected molten material 15 while maintaining its surface tension. In order to maintain this surface tension, the number of rotations of the rolls becomes a major issue. That is, when the rotation speed of the roll 11 is high, water is present between the melt 15 and the roll 11, so the wettability is weak, and the melt 1
5 gets skipped. Therefore, it is important that the rotational speed of the roll is low enough to prevent the melt 15 from being blown away, and this depends on the surface tension of the melt 15. The peeled thin metal wire 19 with a circular cross section is
Although the casting surface is good and the roundness is also good, in this example, the shape is further adjusted by forming rolls 24. If necessary, several stages of rolling rolls (not shown) may be installed after the forming roll 24 to carry out the rolling process, and finally the film is wound onto a winding roll 25.

The roll 11 of this embodiment is a drum with a flat surface, but as shown in FIG. 3, the roll surface may have grooves 31 to assist in forming a circular cross section of the thin metal wire. The cross section of this groove 31 is
When the molten material 15 easily forms a thin metal wire with a circular cross section, such as one whose main component is iron, the fourth
As shown in the figure, it can be made into a semicircular shape. In this way, a layer of water 32 is also formed between the roll 11 having the grooves 31 and the thin metal wire 19. On the other hand, melt 15
If it is difficult to form a thin metal wire with a circular cross section,
As shown in FIG. 5, the groove 31 has a deep, substantially U-shaped cross section. It is desirable that the radius of the bottom of this approximately U-shaped groove and the radius of the semicircular groove be approximately the same as the radius of the thin metal wire to be manufactured. If the difference is larger than the radius of the thin metal wire, the roundness will deteriorate.

In the first embodiment, water is supplied through one water supply pipe 21, but water may be supplied through a shower 33 as in the second embodiment shown in FIG. In the second embodiment, water is sprayed from the chamber 34 as a shower 33, but as in the third embodiment shown in FIG. good. In this embodiment, a chamber 34 is installed on the outer periphery of the roll 11, an inert gas 41 is caused to flow from a pressure supply pipe 40 via a solenoid valve 35, and a large number of gas holes 42 provided in the chamber 34 are applied to the surface of a thin metal wire having a circular cross section. This is to prevent spraying and oxidation. According to this example, a thin metal wire with a circular cross section that is extremely less oxidized can be obtained.

FIG. 8 shows the cross-sectional shape of the thin metal wire produced using water as the weakly wettable substance as in the first to third embodiments described above. This cross-sectional shape was taken from a photograph of the cross-sectional shape of a thin metal wire. In this case, an Fe-4% Si alloy was used as the molten material, and a roll made of alloy tool steel with a diameter of 200 mm was used, and the roll was provided with grooves on the surface to assist in forming a circular cross section of the thin metal wire. The rotation speed of the roll is
At 125 rpm (peripheral speed approximately 1.31 meters), the ejection pressure of the melt was 0.5 Kg/ cm2 , and the nozzle diameter was approximately 0.6 mm.
I used the one from The amount of water from the water supply pipe is 0.5/mm
The gas pressure from the pressure supply pipe was 2 Kg/cm 2 . 8th
It can be seen from the figure that the circularity of the thin metal wire is very good. Although the cross-sectional shape of the known technique is not shown, it is incomparably worse than the thin metal wire of the present invention. Figure 9 shows the cross-sectional shape when the water layer is intentionally not used under the manufacturing conditions of the example in Figure 8. It is clear that the wire has improved properties and does not become a thin metal wire with a circular cross section, and is an example that clearly shows the effect of the presence or absence of a water layer.

In addition, when water is used as a weakly wettable substance as in the above embodiment, it is possible to use a brazing material (especially roll 11) and a brazing material with good wettability, such as Au-20wt%Sn, which previously could not be used to produce a continuous ribbon. ) can also be manufactured. That is, since the brazing material has good wettability, even if an attempt was made to forcibly peel it off using a peeling gas, it could not be peeled off, making continuous production impossible. but,
When the water layer of the present invention is interposed on the roll surface,
The wettability has become weaker and it can be easily peeled off with a peeling gas, making it possible to perform continuous production.

Furthermore, when water is used as the weakly wettable substance, there is no need to provide cooling equipment for the roll 11.
Moreover, the material of the roll 11 may be either metal or non-ferrous. In the conventional single roll method, from the viewpoint of mass production, the inside of the roll has a water-cooled structure to prevent the temperature of the roll from rising. In this case, the roll material used is iron alloy, which has poor thermal conductivity and cannot be water-cooled, so it is limited to copper alloy, which has good thermal conductivity. Moreover, since the roll is worn during ribbon production, it is hard and resistant. Must be made of a material with good abrasion resistance. However, in each of the above-mentioned embodiments, there is no need to consider the conventional roll material selection factors (thermal conductivity, abrasion resistance). This is because a layer of water is interposed between the melt and the roll, and the water layer can directly cool the melt, resulting in a small temperature rise in the roll.It also improves wear resistance when the melt is cooled directly between the roll and the roll. This is because the amount of wear on the rolls is extremely small since they are not in direct contact. Therefore, the roll material used in the above embodiments may be of any material as long as it has the strength to withstand low speed rotation. For example, non-metallic materials such as mild steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper alloy, aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy, titanium alloy, zirconium alloy, nickel alloy, ceramic, and carbon resin can also be used as the material of the roll.

In the first to third embodiments described above, a layer of water was used as a layer of a weakly wettable material for the molten material. This includes alloys, titanium alloys, high-speed steels, shape memory alloys, amorphous alloys, brazing metals, stainless steels, alloy steels, and special steels.
