DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an improvement in a method for positioning a document and an image when overlay recording is performed in a composite copying apparatus having a document recording device, an image information recording device, and an overlay recording device for these devices.

In a multifunction copying device having an original recording means, an image information recording means, and an overlay recording means for the two, there is a problem in how to position the image information and the original information when performing overlay recording, but this problem has been solved in the past. There was no suitable method to do so.

The present invention has been developed in view of these points, and the positioning is performed by placing a document insertion container with a checkered pattern on the multifunction copying device side, and placing the same checkered pattern as the document insertion container on the display side on the monitor. This was achieved by providing means for generating a grid pattern to be displayed.
