The present invention produces oxamide by reacting an aqueous solution containing copper and a low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid with hydrocyanic acid and a nitrogen oxide compound that is more oxidized than nitrogen monoxide. It relates to a method for use as a catalyst. Oxamide is a new fertilizer that has received high praise as a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, and has been industrialized and sold. The existing industrialized production method first involves reacting carbon monoxide, oxygen and alcohol in the presence of a palladium catalyst and a nitrite ester to produce an oxalic acid diester. Next, react the oxalic acid diester with ammonia to synthesize oxamide 2
This is a method of manufacturing steps. The first stage of the production process is an excellent reaction representative of C 1 chemistry, but the production costs are high due to the high pressure reaction, the use of expensive catalysts, and the circulation of a large amount of alcohol in the entire reaction system. Next, we will describe the production method using hydrocyanic acid as a raw material. Research into production methods for synthesizing oxamide from hydrocyanic acid via dicyanide was at an early stage, but these methods were economically disadvantageous compared to the subsequent methods of synthesizing oxamide directly from hydrocyanic acid. That is, the direct synthesis method simplifies the production equipment and improves the yield of oxamide from hydrocyanic acid compared to the synthesis method via dicyanide. Regarding the direct synthesis method, the production method will be described using JP-A No. 50-29516 as an example. According to the following reaction formula, 2HCN+1/2O 2 +H 2 O→(CONH 2 ) 2
When hydrocyanic acid is reacted with oxygen and water, oxamide is precipitated in the catalyst solution. The catalyst solution usually uses an acetic acid aqueous solution as the carboxylic acid, and contains copper and nitrate ions therein. Oxamide can be easily obtained in high yield under mild reaction conditions, but the disadvantage of this method is that as the reaction scale increases, oxygen absorption into the liquid becomes poor and the reaction becomes unstable, resulting in insufficient oxamide production reaction. It is what happens. Therefore, the theoretical value of oxygen is 2.4
Overuse ~4.5x and circulate oxygen to prevent overuse loss. Since this is a reaction of hydrocyanic acid in a large excess of oxygen, it is natural that measures to prevent explosive reactions must always be taken into consideration. For this purpose, air containing a large amount of inert nitrogen cannot be used because the above-mentioned oxygen absorption rate becomes worse. In reactions where oxygen is used at less than 1.1 times the theoretical value, oxygen absorption will be insufficient, and unless close attention is paid to pH control, the catalyst will be deactivated and the reaction will stop. Next, we will discuss Japanese Patent Publication No. 57-21187, which is a manufacturing method that does not have these problems. This production method uses nitric acid or a compound that can be converted to nitric acid in the reaction solution instead of oxygen. The oxamide production reaction is smoother than when oxygen is used.
The problem with this method seems to be that it uses nitric acid, which is more expensive than oxygen, as an oxidizing agent, but nitric acid can be easily obtained by oxidizing nitrogen monoxide, which is produced during the oxamide production reaction, with oxygen or air. Nitric acid will not be consumed. However, although sufficient reaction activity can be obtained when copper as a catalyst is used at a concentration close to saturation solubility, there is a drawback that the copper adheres to the oxamide and precipitates, gradually reducing the catalytic activity. The method of the present invention is an improvement on the above-mentioned method, in particular by adding a group of auxiliary catalysts to the copper catalyst to improve the reaction activity. That is, the present invention provides an aqueous solution containing copper, a low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid, and one or more metal elements selected from sodium, magnesium, aluminum, calcium, manganese, iron, or zinc. This is a method for producing oxamide, which involves supplying and reacting a nitrogen oxide compound oxidized to . The method of the present invention will be described in more detail below. Hydrocyanic acid is oxidized and hydrolyzed in an aqueous solution containing copper, a cocatalyst metal, and a low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid to form an oxamide. A nitrogen oxide compound that is more highly oxidized than nitrogen monoxide is used as the oxidizing agent in the reaction. The typical nitrogen oxide compound is nitric acid and nitrate. others
NO 2 , N 2 O 3 , N 2 O 4 , zinc acid, etc. can be used.
Since a pH range of 1 is essential for the reaction, when an acid such as nitric acid is used as an oxidizing agent, it is necessary to adjust the addition rate so that the pH falls within a predetermined range. Oxamide is formed as crystals in the reaction solution,
The used nitrogen oxide compound is reduced to nitrogen monoxide and discharged from the reaction system in a gaseous state. The activity of the reaction varies depending on various factors: That is, the concentration of copper, the type and concentration of co-catalyst, the type and concentration of low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid, the reaction pH,
These include reaction temperature, type and concentration of oxidizing agent, etc. The copper catalyst is dissolved in the form of copper nitrate, copper acetate, copper hydroxide, copper oxide, etc., and the pH is adjusted with nitric acid. Copper nitrate is particularly preferred. The higher the concentration of copper, which is closer to the saturated solubility, the higher the reaction activity, but in order to reduce the copper content in oxamide, it is necessary to keep the concentration as low as possible. The auxiliary catalyst metal is added to prevent the reaction activity from decreasing due to low copper concentration and to further increase the reaction activity.
The auxiliary catalysts used for this purpose are Na,
Mg, Al, Ca, Mn, Fe, and Zn are effective. However, without the presence of copper, these metals have no catalytic ability. The upper limit of its concentration is the saturation solubility, similar to that of copper. When copper becomes less than 0.01 mol, the reaction activity decreases. Regarding the reaction activity, the copper concentration and the concentration of low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid are related to each other. For example, when acetic acid is used for a low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid, if the copper concentration is as high as 1.2 mol, the acetic acid concentration should be as low as 30%, and if the copper concentration is as low as 0.05 mol, the acetic acid concentration should be reduced.
If it is set as high as 80%, the same level of reaction activity can be obtained.
It can be predicted that the reaction activity will increase if both the copper concentration and the acetic acid concentration are increased, but as the acetic acid concentration increases, copper becomes difficult to dissolve and the saturated solubility decreases. The type of low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid may be any water-soluble carboxylic acid such as formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, etc., but acetic acid is usually suitable. The optimal concentration of the low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid varies in relation to the copper concentration, but 30 to 90% is used. Especially 60-80%
A concentration of is preferred. PH is one of the factors that greatly influences the reaction, and the optimal reaction PH is closely related to the concentration of low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid. That is, when the concentration is low, the optimum PH range is relatively high, and when the concentration is high, the maximum PH range is relatively low. For example, when the acetic acid concentration is 90%, the optimum pH ranges below 0. Therefore, although the optimum pH cannot be determined uniquely, its range is -0.5 to 2.5, preferably 0 to 1.5. If the reaction proceeds due to insufficient addition of the oxidizing agent, the pH will rise, but in this case it can be easily adjusted by adding nitric acid. Nitric acid can be added to the reaction system at any concentration. Since it is an exothermic reaction, it is necessary to maintain its optimum temperature by cooling. The reaction temperature is 30-90°C, preferably 40-80°C. The pressure range in which the reaction is carried out is not particularly limited, but pressures around atmospheric pressure can be used as necessary. Examples of the present invention are shown below. Example 1 400 ml of an 80% acetic acid aqueous solution containing 0.05 mol of copper nitrate and 0.02 mol of aluminum nitrate is placed in a glass reactor. 20ml of liquid cyanide per hour
Supply at a rate of 70% so that the PH is kept at 0.5
Add nitric acid. The reaction solution was kept at 65° C. while stirring, and the reaction was continued for 3 hours. After the supply of hydrocyanic acid was stopped, the temperature was maintained for an additional 3 hours. 43 g of 70% nitric acid was consumed during the 3-hour prussic acid supply period. The produced crystals were filtered, washed with water and dried to obtain 63.4 g of oxamide. This corresponds to an oxamide yield of 92.7%. Example 2 A reaction was carried out in the same manner as in Example 1 except that formic acid was used in place of acetic acid in Example 1 and the reaction temperature was changed to 55°C. Oxamide was obtained in a yield of 90.3%. Example 3 A 60% aqueous propionic acid solution containing 0.05 mol of copper nitrate and 0.02 mol of magnesium nitrate
Transfer 400ml to a glass reactor. While stirring the reaction solution well, liquid hydrocyanic acid was supplied at a rate of 20 ml per hour. At the same time, nitrogen dioxide was dispersed into the liquid through a porous sphere at a rate of 0.3 mol per hour, and the reaction was carried out at 55°C for 3 hours. After the supply of hydrocyanic acid was stopped, the temperature was kept at the same temperature for an additional 3 hours. During this time, there was no need to adjust the pH by adding nitric acid. The formed crystals were filtered, washed with water, and dried to obtain 62.0 g of oxamide. This corresponds to an oxamide yield of 90.7. Examples 4 to 9 and Comparative Examples 1 to 2 In the same manner as in Example 1, acetic acid was used as the low molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acid, and its concentration, copper concentration,
Table 1 shows the results obtained by varying the metal concentration of the auxiliary catalyst, the reaction pH, and the reaction temperature. As a comparative example, an example was shown in which only a copper catalyst was used without using any metal as an auxiliary catalyst.
