Because of their cushioning effect and light weight, air cushion packages are increasingly being used to mail items that are sensitive to pressure and impact in response to mail orders. Devices for mechanically manufacturing such air cushion packages are also already known. The manufacturing device includes two delivery mechanisms that feed two continuous lengths of coated soda pulp paper, the tension on the paper being controlled by friction brakes. The above-mentioned manufacturing device is further equipped with a feeding mechanism that supplies a continuous length of air cushion foil, and the air cushion foil is moved between two sheets of paper and the air cushion foil between them. What is
After being heat sealed, it is cooled. For this purpose, vertical sealing rails, horizontal sealing rails, and corresponding vertical cooling rails and horizontal cooling rails are separately provided. The paper and air cushion foil are transported by a tensioning mechanism, and the continuous air cushion package is cut into the desired format by a vertical cutter and a horizontal cutter.

A drawback in the practical use of the conventional manufacturing equipment described above is that there is a relatively large amount of waste during the manufacturing of air cushion packages. Such drawbacks are caused in particular by the following reasons. That is, when the paper is heat-sealed to the air cushion foil, tension is created due to contraction of the material, which causes the paper to move laterally with the air cushion foil heat-sealed to it, making it difficult to replace the air cushion foil. Therefore, it is necessary to stop the manufacturing equipment.

Further, there are also disadvantages in that the manufacturing equipment is not easy to use and it takes time to change the format of the air cushion package to be manufactured. Additionally, manufactured air cushion packages may have undesirable tensile marks (recesses) that can cause air cushion failure. Additionally, material adheres to the sealing rail during heat sealing, causing contamination, and similarly manufactured air cushion packages. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically interrupt the manufacturing process and clean the sealing rails, leading to production losses.

According to the above configuration, the air cushion foil is partially or completely face-sealed to the paper in the face-sealing means. This increases the heat-sealing area between the arc isolation foil and the paper, and prevents local tension from occurring.

The position correction means effectively corrects the misalignment of the paper bonded to the air cushion foil on the upstream side of the cutting means, so that the package can be manufactured quickly and reliably without wasting material. Can be done. The use of control means for controlling the machining cycle of the paper and air cushion foils eliminates the need for technically complex sealing carriages that move synchronously with the material succession, and allows the overall production equipment to be configured in a preferred manner. The heat sealing of the paper and air cushion foil and subsequent cooling can be performed with high reliability.

Preferably, the manufacturing apparatus is configured to be able to manufacture continuous air cushion packages in parallel relationship. In this case, the maximum number of air cushion packages that can be manufactured in - number of operations is achieved considering the equipment cost. The production reliability is also further improved if preventive means are provided in the region of the openings of the package located at the longitudinal edges to prevent them from being closed by longitudinal heat sealing. Preferably, such a prevention means is a non-adhesive element, such as a PTFE plunger, located between both air cushion foils and extending in the direction of movement of both papers.

In another advantageous embodiment of the invention, an adjustment device is provided for changing the format of the package. This adjusting device is provided in a rank extending in the direction of movement of the paper, a rack extending in a direction crossing the direction of movement, and a sealing element and a cooling element of the means for heat sealing and cooling. The format can be adjusted by rotating the pinion. In this case, measuring scales are preferably fixed on both sides of the paper travel path in order to facilitate setting of the format for at least lateral heat sealing. Additionally, a detection means using a photoelectric sensor may be provided to determine the lateral cutting position of the puff cage.

In a preferred arrangement, the position correcting means comprises tensioning means which engage the longitudinal edges of the paper when the paper is laterally displaced. This tensioning means comprises a guide roller inclined outwardly with respect to the paper travel path and a tensioning roller likewise inclined outwardly, the longitudinal edge of the lower vapor resting on said guide roller, and said The tension roller engages the edge of the lower paper from the opposite side of the guide roller when the paper is displaced laterally. In order to detect lateral displacement of the paper, it is advantageous to provide detection means at the longitudinal edge of the paper, the contact pressure of the tension roller being controlled by means of a signal from the detection means. The detection means consist of a photoelectric sensor, and the tension roller is actuated via an electrically controlled pressurized medium cylinder, for example a pneumatic jack.

The manufacturing apparatus IO of the present invention can change the format in the range of 100-50011 in a width of 1100 m without replacing any parts. For this purpose, each means is provided with simple adjustment means. That is, the sealing means, the cooling means and the perforating and bending means can be adjusted by a crank cooperating with a rank fixed to the frame. In order to enable format setting on the order of millimeters in the shortest possible time, it is sufficient to provide measuring scales or scales on the connecting members located on both sides of the sealing means. Can be adjusted for settings. Format settings can be changed within the range of 100-500 dragons. The manufacturing speed of the prototype manufacturing device reached approximately 40 working cycles/minute. Since the manufacturing apparatus is capable of manufacturing puff cages in parallel on the left and right sides, this manufacturing speed corresponds to a production speed of 80 packages per minute.

In other words, the PTFE strips 130, 131 protect the sealing surfaces of the edge sealing rails 115, 117 from contaminating the sealing surfaces with sticky melt produced during heat sealing and preventing the areas near the receiving openings of each package from becoming contaminated. Prevent incomplete heat sealing and product defects from occurring.

If the PTFE strip 130.degree. 131a becomes contaminated, the strip is unwound from the negative longitudinal roller to the other longitudinal roller and a new portion of the strip is used. It should be noted that in the region of the central sealing rail 116, there is no need to provide such protection means, since there is no risk of molten foil or the like leaking out and contaminating the sealing surface.

In the air cushion package manufacturing apparatus IO of the present invention described above, the upper paper 1 is supplied from the feeding means 11.
4 and the lower paper 15 are sequentially passed through the various means shown in FIGS. Moreover, the adjustment can be made in a short time.Furthermore, since the individual means and units in the manufacturing apparatus 10 have a simple configuration, there are almost no interruptions or breakdowns, and even unskilled workers can do it. In addition, there are no problems with the conveyance route, sealing route, etc., so it is possible to minimize losses due to waste. Misalignment can be corrected by the position correcting means 42. Furthermore, there is no need to replace the sealing rails or the cooling rails to change the format of the puff cage, it is only necessary to adjust the position of these elements.
