Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve sensitivity, and realize stabilized manufacture, by arranging a flat plate microlens array as a part of package, without directly installing a light converging means on the chip of a solid-state image sensor. CONSTITUTION:In a part of package 3, a flat plate microlens array 1, as a light converging means, is fixed on the light receiving surface 2a side of a solid-state image sensor chip 2. The flat plate microlens array 1 has a plurality of refractive index distribution regions 22 which are arranged, in the form of a matrix, on a main surface side of a plane substrate 21 made of, e.g. glass. This refractive index distribution region 22 is a region in which high refractive index ions are introduced. Incident light is refracted by the boundary surface between the refractive index distribution regions 22 and the plane substrate 21, and converged with a required focal length. Therefore, the refractive index distribution regions 22 are arranged so as to correspond with each unit cell of the solid-state image sensor chip 2. Thereby, the numerical aperture of a solid-state image sensor is improved, and a high-sensitive solid-state image sensing device can be realized.
