Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A laser beam from a semiconductor laser 3 is changed to a scanning beam by the projection lens 4, the diaphragm member 53, and a polygonal mirror 5, and projects the bar code. And a reflected beam is made incident on a photoelectric transducer 7 via a condenser lens 6, then, the bar code is read. By turning the member 52, an aperture 52a is changed, and the effective diameter of the lens 6 is changed, and the radius of the beam west of the laser beam is changed. In such a way, the reading depth of the bar code can be adjusted, and a various kinds of bar codes can be read appropriately by depth corresponding to the kinds of the bar codes with different coarse density.
