Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title copolymer having a high MW and desired properties, by copolymerizing a specific alkenyl ether with maleic anhydride and, optionally, another monomer. CONSTITUTION:An alkenyl ether of the formula (wherein AO groups are 2-18C oxyalkyelene groups of at least one kinds, and when they are groups of two kinds or more, they may be in the form of blocked or random addition, R<1> is a 4-5C alkenyl, R<2> is a 1-3C alkyl or saturated acyl, n is the average number of oxyalkylene groups added and is 1-100) is obtained, for example, by the addition reaction of a 4-5C alkyl alcohol (i) with a 2-18C alkylene oxide (ii) and reacting the adduct with a alkyl halide, a carboxylic acid (halide) or the like (iii).
