Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain in high productivity the titled copolymer good in gloss water resistance, weatherability etc., useful for coatings, by continuous polymerization of the raw material monomer in a multi-step continuously stirring type reactor with a plural of stirring tanks connected in series followed by removing the monomer unreacted. CONSTITUTION:A raw material monomer component consisting mainly of vinyl acetate and methyl methacrylate is continuously polymerized in a multi-step continuously stirring type reactor (thereafter CSTR) with a plural of stirring tanks connected in series, followed by removing the monomer unreacted, pref. using a continuous distillation column, thus obtaining the objective copolymer. Preferably, the reactor is such that two or three CSTRs are connected in series with the continuous distillation column 6 for removing the monomer unreacted connected to the final CSTR 4. Said monomer unreacted, after removal, is pref. fed by circulation to the final CSTR for reuse.
