Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a rigid foam remarkably low in a thermal conductivity, by reacting a specified organic polyisocyanate with a polyol in the presence of trichlorofluoromethane, a catalyst and a foam stabilizer.
CONSTITUTION: A rigid urethane foam is produced by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyol in the presence of a trichlorofluoromethane blowing agent, a catalyst and a prepolymer which is obtained by reacting polymethylenepolyphenyl isocyanate not crystallizable at -10°C with a hydroxyl compound and can dissolve at most 200g of trichlorofluoromethane per 100g thereof at 20°C. The amount of said polyol used is preferably such that the isocyanate group to hydroxyl group equivalent ratio is in the range of about 1.05W1.15.
