Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the rigidity of a steering support by cooling the lower ends of vertical connecting plates to a tunnel section of a floor through a cross member when the intermediate part of a steering support member extending widthwise of a vehicle is supported to the tunnel section of the floor through the vertical connecting plates. CONSTITUTION:A steering support frame 12 formed of a hollow pipe is laid widthwise of a vehicle on a frame 110 disposed inside of an instrument panel, and a bracket 14 for supporting a steering shaft 16 is secured to the frame 12 on the driver's seat side of the intermediate section of the latter 12. Further, the intermediate section of the support frame 12 is supported to a tunnel section 44 of a floor panel 42 through the intermediary of a pair of right and left coupling plates 18. In this arrangement, both ends of a cross member 50 which extends widthwise so as to span the tunnel section and which is laid on the upper surface of the floor panel are coupled to a pair of right and left floor frames 48 extending longitudinally of the vehicle, The lower end parts of the connecting plates 28 are coupled to the cross member 50.
