Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the ratio utilized as effective radiation illuminance by providing an auxiliary reflecting mirror having a focal point at or near the filament of an electric lamp and reflecting the light in the same direction as that of a main reflecting mirror on a hood. CONSTITUTION: A headlight 1 for a vehicle is provided with a main reflecting mirror 2, a lens 3, an electric lamp 4 and an auxiliary reflecting mirror section 5. An auxiliary reflecting mirror 5a formed with a rotary paraboloid having a focal point at the front end section of the high-beam filament 4a of the electric lamp 4, for example, and radiating the reflected light in nearly the same direction as that of the reflecting mirror 2 is provided, and the electric lamp 4 penetrates the center of the auxiliary reflecting mirror 5a. The rate of the light beam reflected as parallel light in the front of the reflecting mirror 2 and utilized as the effective radiation illuminance of the headlight 1 for a vehicle within the whole light beam radiated from the filament 4a can be increased.
