Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten duration of starting current when a main motor is connected with a power source, by driving the main motor to rated speed through a starting motor thereafter connecting the main motor with the power source.
CONSTITUTION: When an induction motor 5 is started, a starting contactor 11 is first closed to feed power to a starting motor 10. Rotation of the starting motor 10 is transmitted through a direct-coupled shaft 12 to the induction motor 5 to increase the rotary speed of rotor of the induction motor 5. When the rotary speed reaches to rated speed, an operating contactor 2 is closed to feed power from a power source bus 1 to the induction motor 5. Consequently, duration of starting current can be shortened.
