Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition, containing cerebroside, sulfatide and sphingomyelin in specific amounts or more as main constituent substances and useful as an emulsion stabilizer for cosmetics or medicines, liposome forming agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:A sphingolipid contained in a visceral tissue, such as bovine brain, is extracted. In the process, a mixed solvent containing hexane and isopropanol at 9:5 ratio of the former to the latter is used a solvent in crude extraction thereof to efficiently afford the aimed sphingolipid extract composition, containing cerebroside, sulfatide and sphingomyelin as main constituent substances in a high purity of >=30.0% when determined as sphingosine and useful as the above-mentioned stabilizer, agent and a protecting agent for the skin or hair, remedy for xeroderma accompanied by pruritis, etc., on an industrial production scale by simple operation. Furthermore, phospholipid can also be extracted in high purity without waste.
