Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a recognition ratio by using an identification dictionary by linearly discriminating the analyzing for an identification at every category of a character to be easily erroneously read. CONSTITUTION:A character picture segmented from a character picture storing means 1 has a feature detected by a feature detecting means 2 and transformed to a feature vector in a feature transforming means 5. A similarity calculating means 6 sequentially reads a character code corresponding to the feature vector from a classification dictionary storing means 3 to calculate the similarity to the feature vector from the means 5 and store a maximum similarity value and the character code thereof to a maximum similarity storing means 7. An Euclidean distance calculating means 9 calculates the Euclidean distance by the character code corresponding to the feature vector outputted from an identification dictionary storing means 8 and the feature vector from the means 5 to store a minimum distance value and the character code in a minimum distance storing means 10. A decision means 11 outputs the character code of the means 10 when the character code coincides with the character code of the identification dictionary.
