Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a contactor small-sized and improve the shielding performance by providing an arc extinguishing device constituted of a grid arc extinguishing section extinguishing arcs with grids, a magnetic arc extinguishing section extinguishing arcs with magnetism, and an arc shield with fitting sections of both arc extinguishing sections and shielding arcs. CONSTITUTION:An arc extinguishing device is constituted of a grid arc extinguishing section G made of multiple grids 29 supported by a grid support 30, a magnetic arc extinguishing section P made of a permanent magnet 23 and a magnetic pole plate 24 arranged on the magnetic pole face of the permanent magnet 23 and supported by a magnetic pole plate support 25, and an arc shield 20 with fitting sections of the grid arc extinguishing section G and magnetic arc extinguishing section P. Arcs generated when contacts 11, 14 are opened are driven toward the grids 29 of the arc distinguishing device by the magnetic flux fed from both fixed and movable contact pieces 10, 13 end arcs themselves and quickly pulled between the grids 29 and divided and cooled and extinguished. The generated arcs are shielded by the arc shield 20. The shielding performance is thereby improved, and a contactor can be made small-sized.
