Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the cause that deteriorates the current efficiency of a battery attaching one kind or more of the platinum group elements catalyst of an oxide of a platinum group element on the surface of a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:One kind or more of platinum group elements or oxide catalyst thereof is attached to the surface of a negative electrode 12. The purpose of the above arrangement is to increase the excessive oxygen voltage on the negative electrode 12 at the time of discharge. This inhibits the reaction, lowering of the pH of the electrolyte, and the generation of oxygen in a closed system. This causes the current efficiency of an electrolyte circulation type secondary battery, eliminates the lowering of the current efficiency even if the number of cycles of charge and discharge is increased, and the lowering of the efficiency of the battery as a whole is made very small as the increase in the partial gas share of oxygen in the gaseous phase is small and therefore the absorption efficiency of chlorine does not lower and the power for auxiliary machinery such as a coolant water cooler is small.
