Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the depth of water easily and accurately, by finding a time whereat the maximum cross-correlation of an estimated theoretical reception waveform and a reception waveform obtained actually is obtained.
CONSTITUTION: A reception signal storage unit 8 stores a reception signal 100 for a required time and reproduces the same. A standard reflection waveform generator 9 generates a standard reflection waveform 10 representing a reception signal waveform determined theoretically from an estimated water depth value. A time delay unit 11 varies sequentially a delay amount given to the waveform 10, until the maximum correlation is obtained by a maximum correlation determination unit 19. Receiving a time-delayed standard reflection waveform 12 and a reproduced reception signal 13, a cross-correlation processor 18 outputs a cross-correlation signal 14 to the maximum correlation determination unit 19. The determination unit 19 outputs a delay time signal 15 to a depth value calculator 20 when it determines that the maximum correlation is obtained at a certain delay time. The signal 15 is converted into a corresponding water depth value by the depth value calculator 20 and outputted therefrom. By this constitution, the depth of water is detected easily and accurately.
