Abstract
PURPOSE: To shorten the distance up to a surface to be scanned and to obtain a wide deflection angle range with a small-sized deflector by diffracting the light beams once diffracted by surface acoustic waves further by another surface acoustic waves and combining the two-time diffraction and one-time diffraction.
CONSTITUTION: A light guide 12 is formed on a substrate 11 of a light deflector 10 and focusing diffraction gratings FGCs 13, 14 for incidence and emission of the light beams are formed to this guide 12. First and second inclined finger chirp crossed comb type electrode pairs IDTs 17, 18 which generate respectively the surface acoustic waves 15, 16 progressing in the direction intersecting with the optical path of the guided light progressing between the FGCs 13, 14 are formed. The AC voltage of the high frequency changing continuously is impressed via a high-frequency amplifier 19 by a sweeper 20 in order to generate the surface acoustic waves 15, 16. A switch 30 which adequately shuts off the AC voltage to the IDT 18 is disposed between the amplifier 19 and the IDT 18 and is opened and closed by a control circuit 31 in synchronization with the frequency sweeping timing of the sweeper 20, by which the one-time diffraction and the two-time diffraction are combined.
