Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart requested tension to a gasket joint without using excessive electric power by reenergizing a drive system so as to apply torque pulse to a fastener after a preselected time pause. CONSTITUTION: At the time of applying tension to a threaded fastener and gasket assembly, rotational force is applied to the fastener by a drive system to threadably advance the fastener. Torque applied to the fastener is detected by a detector 32 continuously compared with the torque control limit value by a monitor and control device 42. As a result of this comparison, when the applied torque reaches the torque control limit value, power of the drive system 30 is made sufficiently small, desirably zero. After a preselected time pause, the drive system 30 is reenergized, and torque pulse is applied until the applied torque reaches the torque control limit value again. Such operation is repeated until the gasket ceases to flow, and requested tension is applied to the gasket with small electric power.
