Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce rapidly cooled solidified metal-based composite powder uniformly dispersing hard fine material by charging mixed powder of metal powder and the hard fine material into a vessel rotating at high speed and collapsing molten metal against the mixed powder stucking to the inner wall of the vessel. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical vessel 1 is rapidly rotated and the mixed powder 3 composing of the metal powder of Al, etc., and the hard fine material of SiC, etc., is stuck on the inner surface of the vessel 1 by centrifugal force. The molten metal 7 of molten pure Al, etc., (the same composition as the metal powder in the vessel 1) in a crucible 5 is forcedly discharged from a sliding nozzle 8 and is uniformly collided against the whole surface of the mixed powder 3. Then, the mixed powder 3 rapidly cools and solidifies the molten metal 7. In the rapidly cooled solidified metal-base composite powder obtd. by this method, the molten metal is stuck and solidified on the metal powder, and the SiC powder is enclosed between both. Further, this powder having irregular shape but smooth surface and good compactibility, fluidity and filling ability necessary in powder metallurgy is obtd.
