Abstract

PURPOSE: To stably and exactly decide completion of steel tapping from a converter by photographing molten steel surface in a ladle with a television camera and detecting flow-in of slag from change of white-picture element value finding from picture obtd.
CONSTITUTION: After refining of the molten steel 1 completes in the converter 2, the molten steel 1 is tapped in the ladle 3 on a carriage 7 by tilting the converter 2. The molten steel surface 6 in the ladle 3 during tapping the molten steel 1 is continuously photographed with the television camera 5 as adjustable to the position with a motor 8. The picture is inputted to a picture processor 9 and the inputted picture is decomposed into the picture elements and each picture element is converted into binary variable by selecting the prescribed threshold, to find the number of the white-picture element. From the change in the lapse of time the number of the white-picture element, the flow-in of the slag 4 into the ladle 3 from the converter 2 is detected. By this method, the completion of steel tapping from the converter 2 is decided and a motor 11 is controlled through a converter control device 10, to return the tilting of the converter 2.
