Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent increase of temperature of laser gas in a discharge space and to improve efficiency of laser oscillation, by controlling pulse waveform of a discharge voltage in the discharge space when a set pulse peak value exceeds a certain value during laser oscillation, for the purpose of making discharge energy uniform. CONSTITUTION:A predetermined pulse voltage is applied to an electrode 1 to excite laser gas in a discharge space and to oscillate a laser beam. A pulse generator of such laser oscillator is adapted such that, when a pulse peak value set by a pulse peak value setting device 5 exceeds a certain value during laser oscillation, discharge energy is made uniform by controlling the waveform of a discharge voltage within the discharge space. For example, if a pulse peak value of pulse set values exceeds a value as set by a pulse peak threshold setting device 12, the pulse generator outputs a staircase pulse whose front part has a pulse peak value as set by a staircase pulse peak width setting device 15 and whose rear part has a peak value as set by a staircase rear peak setting device 18.
