Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The fluorine-containing mono- or polyalkylene glycol derivative characterized in that at least one of 2-30C fluorine-substituted hydrocarbon group bonded with >=3 fluorine atoms is grafted to mono- or polyalkylene group in the main chain of a mono- or polyalkylene glycol derivative of formula I (R1-R3 are H or 1-30C alkyl; A is 1-30C unsaturated hydrocarbon group, polar group or polar group substituted with 1-100C unsaturated hydrocarbon group; B is A or 1-30C hydrocarbon group; x is 0-100; n is integer of 1-1,000) per 1 molecule of the mono- or polyalkylene glycol derivative. EXAMPLE:The compound of formula II. USE:A raw material for contact lens. It has excellent oxygen permeability, contamination resistance, hydrophilicity and water-swelling property. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula III with a fluorine-substituted unsaturated hydrocarbon and then reacting with a polar group-containing organic compound.
