Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a fuel assembly which allows the shut-down of a nuclear reactor in spite of increasing the enrichment of fuel and is improved in an axial power distribution by disposing fuel rods inserted with interposing members into the fuel assembly to intersected straight line shapes, etc. CONSTITUTION:A square water rod 32 is disposed at the center in this case and 9 lines and 9 rows of the fuel rods 30, 31 are regularly disposed except this central part. The outside thereof is enclosed by a channel box 33 and further, the top and bottom ends thereof are fixed respectively by an upper tie plate 34 and a lower tie plate 35. The fuel rods 31 are the fuel rods P inserted with the interposing members. The suitable length l of the interposing members 36 is <=1/3H (H: effective overall length of the fuel) and is adequately about 30-60cm in this embodiment. The central height of the members 36 is about 3/4H from the bottom end of the effective length of the fuel. The reason for such limitation lies in that the subcriticality is shallow particularly within about 1/4 near about 3/4H. The fuel rods P31 inserted with the interposing members are disposed in the cruciform shape (straight line shapes intersecting orthogonally with each other) with the central water rod 32 as a center.
