Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a high strength large-sized chain for mooring of a marine structure at low cost by executing a heat treatment such as quenching, tempering, etc., to a chain produced by a rod steel having specific C content and Ms point under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: The large-sized chain for mooring of a marine structure is produced by using the rod steel which has the compsn. consisting of, by weight, 0.15W35% C, 0.15W0.50% Si, 1.00W2.00% Mn, 0.50W1.20% Cr, 0.10W0.60% Mo, 0.010W0.060% acid soluble Al and the balance, in which the Ms point (martensite starting temp.) expressed by the equation 1 is regulated to ≥350°C and satisfies the relationship of Di≥1.524D+0.8D between the ideal critical diameter (in) Di and the diameter of the material rod steel (in) D. Said chain is quenched into boiling water of ≥90°C and is thereafter applied to the usual tempering treatment. By this method, the large-sized chain having high strength is produced at low cost.
