Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magneto-optical recording medium which is adequate for recording and reproduction at a high speed without using costly Tb by using the combined body of TdDyFeCo of a prescribed compsn. at the time of combining transition metals (Fe, Co) and rare earth metals (Tg, Gd, Dy...) and forming an amorphous magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:This combined body is expressed by the general formula (GdxDy1-x)z(FeyCo1-y)1-z, where 0.3<x<0.5, 0.25<z<0.35, 0.75<y<1.0. Gd increases a Kerr rotating angle thetak, Dy decreases a Curie temp. TC or increases HC, Co increases thetak as well; these elements act respectively effectively on the perpendicularly magnetized film. A laminate 3 adequately selected with the compsn. of prescribed DgDyFeCo is superposed via an underlying SixOy film 2 on a glass substrate 1 and is coated with a protective SixOy film 4, by which the magneto-optical disk is obtd. This disk is capable of making recording and reproduction at a high line speed.
