Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce layer structural bismuth.holmium oxide useful as oxygen ion conductor by mixing Bi2O3 and Ho2O3 in a specified molar ratio and by heating in atm. below a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:The Bi2O3 or compd. decomposing to Bi2O3 by heating and the Ho2O3 or compd. decomposing to Ho2O3 by heating are mixed in 20.5-24.5mol% Ho2O3. The mixture is heated in atm. <=700 deg.C to produce the bismuth.holmium oxide of general formula Bi2-2xHo2xO3 (x=0.205-0.245), having hexagonal layer structure. The oxide is usable in oxygen sensor, fuel cell, oxy gen pump, etc., as oxygen ion conductor.
