Abstract

PURPOSE: To superpose plural original read images on a photosensitive drum one over another without increasing the diameter of the photosensitive drum by rotating a motor for pulse control with high resolution in the forward movement of a scanning optical system and rotating it in the backward movement with lower resolution than in the forward movement.
CONSTITUTION: The motor 10 uses a stepping motor which has 0.9°/step resolution in full-step driving and microstep driving wherein a full step is divided by eight is employed. Namely, when an original is read, the motor 10 is driven by the microstep driving with high resolution to move the scanning optical system forward and thus preclude vibrations, thereby improving picture quality. In the backward movement wherein the original is not read, the motor 10 is switched to the full-step driving or half-step driving and then driven with the lower resolution than in the forward movement.
