Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable selective sterilization of sundry germs in a liquid containing an immobilized bio-catalyst, without breaking the immobilized bio-catalyst nor causing the problems of the residue of disinfectant and the denaturation of the reaction liquid, by applying a high-potential electric field pulse to a liquid containing the immobilized bio-catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A high-potential electric field pulse is applied to a liquid containing an immobilized bio-catalyst to sterilize the liquid containing the immobilized bio-catalyst. The strength of the electric field of the pulse is 2W100kV/cm and the wave form of the applied pulse (wave form showing the variation of electric potential with time) is 20nsecW1μsec in rise time and 100 nsecW1msec in width. The immobilized bio-catalyst is preferably immobilized yeast produced by culturing yeast cell in wort, suspending the cells in an aqueous solution of sodium alginate and dripping the suspension into an aqueous solution of calcium chloride.
