Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily obtain a Co-type amorphous-metal filament having a specific uniform wire diameter and also having circular sectional form, by subjecting an alloy having a specific composition consisting of Si, B, and Co to melt spinning. CONSTITUTION:An alloy having a composition which consists of, by atom, <=20% Si, 7-35% B, and the balance essentially Co and further contains, if necessary, <=30% of one or more kinds among <=30% Fe, <=20% Ni, <=10% each of Cr, Ta, Nb, and V, and <=5% each of Mo, Mn, W, and Zr and in which Si+B=7-35% is satisfied is melted and the resulting molten alloy is introduced into a rotary cooling medium, by which the molten alloy is solidified by rapid cooling to undergo spinning. By this method, the Co-type amorphous-metal filament having a wire diameter satisfying an inequality DF<=190-8¦Si-11¦-8¦B +0.8Si-25¦ [where DF represents the wire diameter (mum) of filament], a circular sectional form, and <=13% thickness uniformity in a longitudinal direction can be obtained. This filament is inexpensive and has corrosion resistance, high toughness, and high electromagnetic properties, so that it is useful as various industrial materials for electrical and electronic parts, composite material, fiber material, etc.
