When an editing switch is operated to ON, a control circuit 4a locks a switch operation by a control key other than a play key. Consequently, even when the stop key, etc., of the switch 3a is operated during the editing, the VTR 1 does not malfunction, and the editing reproduction continues. When a tape is stopped from the editing reproduction mode, the editing switch is turned off, and then the stop key is pushed. Thus, even when the control switch is operated erroneously during the editing, the malfunction of the VTR on the reproducing side is prevented.
