Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform smooth regulation of light with a simple constitution by periodically changing the resonance frequency of LC resonance controlling a main transistor of an inverter and by changing each period of the resonance frequency which is different from cycle to cycle of the periodical change. CONSTITUTION:When a discharge lamp 3 is lit in a fully lit condition and a transistor 24 in a light regulation circuit 20 is on-off controlled with a certain cycle periods of on and off, one condenser 22 is separated from the circuit, the condenser value in an LC resonance of an input section of a main transistor 6 decreases to shorten the on period of the transistor 6, oscillation frequency of a transistor inverter 2 increases, lamp current of the discharge lamp 3 decreases, and the discharge lamp 3 becomes in a dimmed light condition. Further, if a transistor 24 is made off over the entire period, the discharge lamp 3 is lit at a minimum brightness determined with the capacity of a condenser 21.
