Abstract
PURPOSE:To uniformize the structure and to simplify the manufacturing stage by heating edge parts of a low carbon steel continuous cast slab whose central part temp. is at a prescribed temp. so that a temp. of the edges reaches the central part temp. and then directly hot rolling the slab without use of a furnace. CONSTITUTION:The central part of a low carbon steel continuous cast slab 20 containing <=0.1% C is heated at a temp. higher than the Ar3 transformation point and at which no ferrite emerges. Edge parts of the slab 20 are heated by edge heaters 11 so that the total part of the slab 20 reaches the same temp. and then the slab 20 is directly hot rolled without use of a furnace. By this method, uniformization of the quality and the effective production are achieved.
