Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively prevent development of penetration of molten metal by giving inclination following to solidified shrinkage of solidified shell in a cast slab to side plates for short side arranged at both end parts between one pair of faced circulating bodies. CONSTITUTION:For example, the side plate 4 for short side is made by metal at sliding part with metallic belt 2 and on the other side, refractory having embracing type at center part thereof. This side plates are protruded to the inside direction as going downward and have multiple steps of the inclination, such as large inclination to the vertical line at near meniscus and gradually smaller inclination to the vertical line as going drawing direction. In this way, by arranging the multiple steps of the inclination or the curving face to the side plates 4, so that the distance between the faced side plates is gradually decreased as following to the shrinkage quantity of the solidified shell at long side surface, the penetration of the molten metal into the gap between the solidified shell at the long side surface and the side plate of the short side is prevented. Therefore, the casting fault at the short side in the cast slab caused by the penetration of the molten metal can be effectively prevented.
