Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve efficiency of hydrogen removal and to obtain an aluminum ingot having extremely low hydrogen concn., such as 0.08cc/100g, by cooling and solidifying while stirring the molten aluminum.
CONSTITUTION: A cooler 2 is arranged at lower part of a vertically cylindrical electric furnace 1 and a cylindrical graphite crucible 5 is put on the cooler 2 and the molten aluminum 6 is charged in the crucible 5. A coil 10 for generating rotating magnetic field is set around an electric furnace 1 and in this coil 10, the three phase AC transformer 11 for generating rotating magnetic field is connected to delta-delta. The molten aluminum 6 having the prescribed purity is charged in the crucible 5, and at the time of supplying the three phase AC current to the coil 10, eddy current is generated in the molten aluminum 6, and the Lorentz's force acts to flow and stir the molten metal. The supply of the cooling water into the cooler 2 is started and the molten metal 6 is solidified from the bottom part thereof at the solidified speed, to make the ingot. The ingot having less than the prescribed hydrogen concn. at half part of whole length of the ingot is obtd.
