Abstract
PURPOSE:To print with variations in gradation, by providing first data and second data as data to be added to higher order bits other than the least significant bit of gradation data, and selecting one of the first and second data. CONSTITUTION:First data is so set that all upper order bits other than the least significant bit are 0, and the least significant bit is changed alternately to 1 or 0 each time gradation data is supplied. When the first data is added to the gradation data and when the gradation data is 1, 3, 5..., the densities of adjacent dots are alternately varied by one step, whereas when the gradation data is 2, 4, 6..., dots with densities corresponding to the gradation data are printed. Second data is so set that all bits are changed alternately to 1(MSB)...1(LSB) and 0(MSB)...0(LSB) each time the gradation data is supplied. When the second data is added to the gradation data and when the gradation data is 2, 4, 6..., the densities of adjacent dots are alternately varied by one step, whereas when the gradation data is 1, 3, 5..., dots with the same single density are printed. Thus, the result of printing by addition of the second data to the gradation data is globally higher in gradation by one gradation than the result of printing by addition of the first data.
