Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the control of the temp. of a cooling water film and the grain size of a powder metal by providing a discharge regulating valve to a discharge port for the powder metal and cooling water at the time of charging a molten metal into a cooling vessel which is formed with the cooling water film by centrifugal force on the inside wall and is under high-speed rotation to produce the powder metal. CONSTITUTION:The cooling water is supplied from a cooling water supply pipe 63 to the cooling vessel 22 rotating at a high speed around a perpendicular revolving axis 14 and the water film is formed by centrifugal force on the inside wall surface 27 of the cooling vessel 22. The molten metal is simultaneously ejected from an end port 61 of an ejection cylinder 60 and is rapidly cooled by the water film on the inside wall of the cooling vessel under the high speed rotation, by which the powder metal is produced. The powder metal and the cooling water are discharged from the discharge port 33 of the cooling vessel 22. The powder metal and the cooling water are separated by a screen 39. The discharge rate regulating valve 64 is provided to the above-mentioned port 33 of this device. The valve 64 is opened and closed according to the supply rates of the cooling water and the molten metal, by which the operation at the stabilized water film temp. of the cooling water and the grain size of the powder metal is enabled.
