Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively remove oxide scale from a hot rolled Cr stainless steel strip by treating the strip by shot blasting or other means, dipping it in an aq. soln. contg. sulfuric acid and nitric acid ions at specified concns. and removing smut. CONSTITUTION:A hot rolled Cr stainless steel strip is treated by a mechanical means such as shot blasting to crack scale on the strip. The strip is dipped in an aq. soln. contg. 150-550g/l sulfuric acid and 5-90g/l nitric acid ions in the form of nitric acid or the like and descaling is carried out by brushing or other means. Smut produced by pickling is then removed by treatment with a aq. nitric acid soln. or other means to obtain a white surface. Thus, the strip is effectively descaled without reducing the rate of passing or passing the strip again through pickling equipment.
