Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title prophylactic or remedy which contains highly purified immunoglobulin originating from horse blood and can be given orally or intravenously, thus protecting the horses from their infections caused by immune antibody transfer insufficiency.
CONSTITUTION: Horse plasma or serum is appropriately diluted to adjust its concentration. Then, as alcohol is added under cooling, fractionation is repeated to remove the fibrinogen, albumen fraction, the α-globulin fraction and β-globulin fraction and the remaining fraction is purified by removing the remaining alcohol by dialysis or other mild processes to provide a liquid or freeze-dried preparation. The preparation is given orally to a new-born foal within 24hr and intravenously after 24hr.
