Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the appearance of a connection part by mutually connecting steel plates welded to a pair of square steel pipes with strapped plate and bolts and covering the connection part with a cover steel pipe having the same sectional shape and welding the mutual steel pipes. CONSTITUTION: A part of joint steel plates 8A, 8B assembled to have a cruciform shape is inserted in the ends of square steel pipes 1A, 1B so that the side end faces come in contact with the inside corners of the steel pipes, and the contact parts of the inside faces of the steel pipes 1A, 1B and the steel plates 8A, 8B are welded together. The pair of these steel pipes 1A, 1B are butted against each other while counterposing the tips of these steel plates 8A, 8B, and the steel plates 8A, 8B are mutually connected by strapped plates 5A, 5B and bolts 3. The connection part is covered with a cover steel pipe 11 having the same sectional shape with the steel pipes 1A, 1B and the butt ends of the steel pipes 1A, 1B and the steel pipe 11 are welded to each other. In this way, the appearance of the connection part can be improved and the connection strength is also enhanced.
