Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound having excellent hydrolysis resistance and esterifiable to an ester utilizable in the field of paint, etc., at a low cost, by reacting isobutylene oligomer with carbon monoxide and water in the presence of a specific acid catalyst under a specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is produced by reacting isobutylene oligomer with carbon monoxide and water under 2W40kg/cm2, preferably 4W20kg/cm2 pressure at 0W50°C using at least one kind of catalyst selected from a group of a catalyst composed of sulfuric acid, a catalyst composed of sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, a catalyst composed of boron trifluoride and water, a catalyst composed of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, boron trifluoride and water and a catalyst composed of phosphoric acid, boron trifluoride and water. The acid strength of the catalyst is -9.2W-6, preferably -3W-6.5.
