Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a metal alkoxide solution containing a high concentration of chlorine, capable of maintaining the stabilized composition for a long period of time, by direct reaction of a metal chloride with a specific equivalent of an alkali metal alkoxide.
CONSTITUTION: The direct reaction between a metal chloride of MCln, e.g., TiCl4, GeCl4 or SnCl4 in the liquid form or TaCl4, ZrCl4, or SnCl2 in the solid form (1 gram equivalent) and an alkali metal alkoxide resulting from reaction of an alkali metal with a 1W10C alkyl alcohol (n gram equivalents) is performed to give a chlorine-containing metal alkoxide solution which is composed of more than 0.8mol./l of MCln-x(OR)x. The metal chloride is used in the anhydrous form, it is added dropwise to the alkali metal alkoxide cooled solution, when the chloride is liquid, while the solid chloride is dispersed in a solvent and the dispersion is added to the alkoxide cooled solution.
